Shellybelly darn when I moved back from Pa I gave away about 50 things with sunflowers on them from dishes to crockery, would have mailed it to you. Pea I have about 400 8x8 grey tiles, left over from tiling my house in '88. believe that!!! I was going to send to dump, but hate to throw them away. When my son tiled his apt, he had 6 boxes of 16x16 white, so I am going to use them up. gin_gin, the first set I do I am putting in partial shade and planting artillery fern in the holes so it cascades out over the block, I don't like to see a 'wall effect' I want it softer so I don't think the sun will be affecting these. It's really easy to rub stain into a scratch on a wood door and make it hardly noticeable. I decided against paint for my new kitchen without any children (much less five under five!) and no animals, because I knew there would be scratches and I knew I wouldn't like the resulting "patina". You can paint out scratches a bit, but it's hard with a factory paint job. Factory paint is more durable than brushed paint, but brushed paint is easier to "fix". So... how much do you like the white vs. how much do you hate bumps and scratches? Would you ever consider something as unstylish as melamine? As expensive as lacquer? Do you expect to move or redo your kitchen by the time your kids are in their teens? Or when they're out of the house? Or do you expect this kitchen to survive their childhood?

Trends come and go, right now dark wood is out, and so in your mind your home looks dark. You bought that home for a reason, you loved the wood. Learning to decorate around the more permanent parts of your home forces you to be creative and makes a more interesting space, learn to see it as an exciting challenge. The floor is too light and so is the ceiling. It is actually the lightness that makes the wood feel so dark. Look up craftsman homes. They are only wood; pay attention to the paint colors. I promise you if you paint it all the charm will be lost and the room will feel too big.

No but I would use a primer just to get good adhesion.
