Anyone do their 2010 orders yet?
Comments (66)Completely out of space so no newbies for me this year----previous ones are establishing nicely, although I think I may have lost some of the (luckily cheaper) ones that I tried in the ground due to our unusually cold winter. Mainly I grow in very large pots as the ground where I live is VERY poor---dry and stony and only a few inches deep on top of a stone shelf so only especially hardy ones go in the ground for lanscaping alongside hardy geraniums. I have LAKE EFFECT, the first year I was not impressed at all, I thought the colour was FOUL, but last year it was really nice and is coping well with British weather (much better than I am) so it is one worth keeping for a few year even if you don't like it initially....See MoreIs anyone ordering seeds yet?
Comments (14)Oh, bummer! I don't know if I can hold off planting seeds inside past Feb or not, Helen! But I'm with you, schlepping big plants around is a drag. It seems like I always set them out too early, too, it works out sometimes, but fails other times, and I think it always sets them back so that I haven't really gained much by doing everything so dang early. Send the counselor my way. Heh. I tried wintersowing in round Ice-cream tubs with a big "X" cut in the lid last year. I cut the bottom out and pressed them down into the ground so I didn't have to mess with potting mixes. Around here, we have to plan ahead if we're going to wintersow because nobody sells the components for potting soil here in the winter. Mention "wintersowing" at any of the garden centers around here and they look at you like you are speaking a foreign language. Of course with our erratic spring temperatures, I had seedlings in nearly everything before the last two frosts and of course couldn't bring anything in. I had them grouped together so I could cover them with a blanket but the end results weren't very good, I didn't count it as a success and won't try that again. So this year I'm back to milk containers and a soil mix of equal parts peat, mushroom compost (which just looks like dirt to me) and vermiculite....See MoreWebsite recommendations for buying tubs online?
Comments (2)I second the recommendation for Quality Bath. I bought almost everything (toilet, sink, all faucets and shower hardware, etc.) from them for the bathroom we renovated last summer. Their prices were great - if you call you can sometimes get a lower price than shown on their website - and the people there were extremely helpful. They were honest about shipping times. We are about to start another bath, and I will buy as much as possible from them....See MoreAnyone buy their Herbeau or other fireclay sink online?
Comments (23)I ordered mine through a local store...the Shaw 3018. It arrived yesterday and we inspected today...it is cracked at the rim (would show with any sort of reveal). So far my local store has been responsive, but there has been no resolution yet and I need a sink soon! The Rohls are now waitlisted due to some problem at the factory...maybe cracked rims??? LOL. It was also packed with the bottom on the side that said "Front" and to open that side. Does that seem odd? It seems like the bottom of the sink should have been on the ground... Anyway, I'm trying to decide if I stay with Rohl or change to a Herbeau or a Franke or a Kohler Fireclay apron front. Most people love the Shaw, but obviously there are issues with it, too, and I can't wait until Jan. to get the replacement... After this, I would definitely stick with local - they are going to come pick it up so I don't have to deal with shipping, and hopefully they will help resolve this mess....See Moreerasmus_gw
