Leather sofas -- too much leather? Help me pick couches!!!
Hi all, we are looking to replace the two sofas in our living room. We could use some advice. Our old slip covered sofas are slumpy and worn out and they have to go!! We have two dogs, so my inclination is to either get two more slip covered sofas, or switch to leather. I think we want two identical sofas. We already have a vintage leather Siesta chair that we love and plan to keep.
We went sofa shopping yesterday, hit 5 stores and sat on many, many sofas. We're both leaning toward the Pierson leather sofa from Room and Board. The size is good, we love the base and the lines of the sofa. It's super comfortable. I requested a bunch of of leather samples and am waiting for them to arrive.
My concern is that all of our living room seating would then be leather. Is that too much? The Siesta chair is deep brown leather and we would probably order deep gray or black leather for the new sofas.
Our style is mostly organic modern I guess. We like mcm, patina, comfortable, natural, and clean lines. Our living space is mostly open with dining and living fully visible from each other and kiitchen continuing just out of view. It's not a large space. I'm probably looking for sofas 80-85" in length.

The cardboard thing in the back right corner is a mock up for a freestanding woodstove that has since been installed. We have also replaced the front door with a glass one since this photo.

Comments (10)Yes, it certainly CAN work. The throw that you have over the back of the leather sofa unites the two colors. Maybe try to find pillows that have both the leather sofa and the gray(?) sofa colors in them. Some pics shown HERE. Note the two prints that you have above the gray sofa - Here are more prints, but of stormy beach scenes. Look for fabrics/pillows in those tones. Comments (4)Thanks cawaps and Inside Out.!The modsy pics are of my room but with different furniture photoshopped in. We bought the house a couple of months ago and are replacing everything in the room - fireplace, mantel, carpet, paint, etc - so the actually room just looks like a box right now. The only piece of furniture that I've decided on is the sofa with chaise so far. I ordered it, and it will be in in about 6 weeks. I completely agree about including texture! I keep telling myself that most of the room will be tied together with throw pillows, etc, but I don't have much experience working with leather and it's making me nervous. Comments (5)What you may want to do is use teal as a trim on a piece(s) and also in pillows on the sofa, Highlight the recliners with it, don't order them all in that color. Teal is vivid, and works best using it on gimp, welt trim, panels and the like. Now, you will have to use a maker that will do this for you, but many domestic ones can easily handle it. Just to show you what I mean, here's a chair I brought into my store for floor stock, yet I wanted to jazz it up a little. This is a Hancock and Moore Expedition Chair, and I used a brown suede in the side detail panel, then a specialty cross hatch hide on the inner back to create a unique look rather than doing the whole piece on a solid leather.
