Great post.. Most of my peeves were already mentioned... I will add: Overuse of pocket doors - they can't use regular hardware so they are difficult to open and close Stacked stone used everywhere...inside and out - most of the time, it is manufactured, not real and it shows! Jack n Jill bathrooms - these just bother me especially if you have a boy and a girl....tough to decorate and "share" that space, especially with teenagers. Outdoor lighting around garages and front doors that is sooo small...off scale. Pam

As if I hadn't said enough already... Forgot to mention a few things: One wall of my room has a couple of windows and the adjacent wall has a set of french doors leading to a small balcony rather than window/s. The french doors are single-panel glass doors. Also forgot to say that I took down the original small ceiling fixture which was just an antique-brass colored (or may have been painted over a cream color - I forgot) small canopy with a frosted clear glass sconce-type shade hanging from a couple of small chain links. Very simple and small. I put in its place a horrific white fan cause in the warmer months I loooove the feel of a ceiling fan. Put the original safely in storage though! Is it unfair to a husband (a husband who's particularly indifferent) to paint the walls a white color that has a hint of pink in it? I thought that might look nice with the white curtains and white trim and the black rod iron bed and such. My other thought was that I've noticed - the last couple of years - that the look of white walls with white window treatments and white trim is (or at least was) kind if in vogue in a New York "show off your art" sort of way. The walls being a sort of canvas. I don't have any amazing art but that monochromatic white look has something slightly appealing about it - even if in reality it might be a bit much? Lastly, if I change the white curtains for something else (keeping the white sheer drapes behind them), I'm wondering if a gold, solid-colored silk type fabric would work even though I have black rod iron which is more of a rustic look, and even though I have the white ceiling fan (all white - no fake wood or wicker stuff)? Ugh - I hope I haven't driven away those who would have given me advice had I not overwhelmed them with all this blah blah blah writing!! ;)

It's your office; standing desk and w/multiple displays, it would seem you spend a decent amount of time there. Also good that it looks as tho you do not need a window covering: Good, don't put anything on the window to hide the view [or light]. If it were my space, I wouldn't give two hoots about painting a certain color because of the smallness of the room, nor necessarily care what the existing paint color is. I would paint this room that I use, the color(s) I like. Period. As others have suggested, do consider the ceiling as a paint-able surface, where color can be used. Screw always-white ceilings; I don't buy that premise. Boring, trite and predictable. Not saying white shouldn't be a choice, just that white shouldn't be an assumed choice. Since it IS a small room, and it IS your (private) office [versus guest room or living room], why not consider something crazy, like painting all four walls different colors? I know...outlandish. Or highlighting the window trim, since the outdoor scenery should be made a focal point. As leslie said, why not be facing the view as you work! I just think sometimes it's worth it to step outside of the normal boring box. Make it something un-boring and Fun.

Sarah I was going to say sponge painting too lol! Not necessarily a bad look, but the aforementioned bedrooms in my first home were done poorly in ugly colors by the teens of the previous owner. One room was smurf blue, so it looked like a smurf blew up in there. With red shag carpet no less! The other room we called the "mudroom" because of the wall color . . . None of that was "trendy" but to the taste of the teens, and I already mentioned the horror of my teen bedroom. My dear mother tried to keep it under control, but I had bright pink zinnia wallpaper and purple shag carpet. And bright white painted furniture with psychedelic trim elements in orange, pink, lime green, bright blue and purple . . . It was the bomb! Sock it to ya! But, as a cautionary tale, I would say try and keep teen room design elements to those easily replaced. It took two coats of paint before my splatter painted walls looked flat with color. I would not be able to function in my former bedroom, but I kind of wax nostalgic for my little brother's wallpaper with the small print of astronauts and rocket ships against a white background. That was less of a moment for regret, although not necessarily something an adult would like, unless they were terribly sentimental. He acquiesced to just one accent wall . . . I think after my room, my wallpapering parents were burned out!!
