Comments (12)We too had a rainfall deficit, but please, we don't need more now. Thankfully, it isn't snow; or maybe not thankful, as there will be no insulation with the coming frigid weather. Flutterfest looks like a true pink. Fruitful Discovery--I always liked the color at Ashwood, but was put off by slow opening (and I never saw it before noon). Difficult to locate now. As for Freedom of Expression, there aren't many of Curt's plants that are registered height. Some I see there are much taller than here; others, not, and I wonder when they were ever the registered height. Free Wheelin I think has a more northern range than it used to have, all the result of climate change. People north of here used to complain about its performance, but looks good in Sherry's garden. Fear Not is vivid, but scapes aren't clearly above the foliage most years here. Fashionnaire looks alluring, but only 20 inches tall? How about a clump shot of Flame of the West? Brad, there are a lot of daylilies registered as 10-15 or even higher (and most of those are 10 or less). Of course, you are farther south, so the bud count might be even less a ways north. Most of the older Stamiles in my garden (such as Rock Solid) have bud counts in the 6-9 range. There might be one scape that has more. However, I'm not seeing scape density in First Light. Beautiful ruffling and green throat. Maybe a bridge plant (I'm not a hybridizer). Another pic? What a clump of Fried Green Tomatoes! It multiplies here, but not that much in the bloom department. I guess I am not a Herrington fan. Fiesta Latina --great landscaper with good height (without being a bean pole), heavy bloom, and vivid color Fiesta Panties --quite short, but colorful From Sea to Shining Sea--good height for an Emmerich. Velvety. Fire Pegasus --showy in the garden (probably 5.5 inches). Free Ticket --usually looks more brownish (like Matthew Martin). Plant habit not clear yet. For Ever and For Always--tall, modest budcount, striking color Fancy Panties --blowsy form Feminist Bookstore --haven't seen it at full clump strength yet. Colors seem best early in day. Fountain of Life --can have a nice edge. Flying Trapeze --good height on this Moldovan. Airy bloom placement. Free the Captives --more purplish early morning color changes to reddish tones. Like many others, subpar this year. Free to Dance --a delight this year after two years of doing little. Very appealing color to me. Fight or Flight --subpar this year Free Wheelin Fear Not --better than previous year...See MoreM daylilies 2024
Comments (18)Mystery of the Ages here had few blooms; didn't like last summer. Money Maker was nice its first year here, but the last two have had question marks. Memphis has been quite reliable here, though subpar last year. Margo Reed Indeed--what can I say? The "slight" defect of blooming just above the foliage is not slight here. Nor is its bloom compelling in an era of Isabelle Rose. I had someone asking for it and tried to convince him to choose something else, but he was persistent. It may have more merits farther south. Martha Edson Norris --showy, but indeed short by nature. Mitch Lynd--heavily budded, but blooms don't seem to crowd each other out. Mama Drama --subpar the past year; picture from 2022 Man of Sorrows --subpar. Needed to be divided too. Out of Joan Derifield Makayla Jenelle --don't know why it is not more widely grown. Boatwright Mai Tai --nice the past year; not a fast multiplier here Morning Mood --subpar year. A favorite here, but not widely grown. Pic from earlier year. Mahogany Magic from 2022. Bad year the past summer. Mary's Gold --a beacon in the later garden, rivaling Bill Norris in this color. Magic Lace. I still have this one, though David appears to have deleted it. Memphis this past summer --bud count can be modest, but flowers are consistent showstoppers. Mister Butters produced this picture past summer. Mary Lightfine, an evergreen, actually liked the past summer. Those that outperformed last year may not like more "typical" summers (if one dares to use "typical" anymore). This is the parent of Mary's Baby--hence, the name. And Mary's Baby this year, a subpar year. Minnesota Nice was subpar compared with this pic from 2022. It needs to be divided. Another one that seems not to be widely grown....See MoreP and Q daylilies 2024
Comments (20)I've had computer problems, so am late posting. Interesting Bennett pinks, including Picking Time and Pink Jeans. Purple Riot must get its rich color from parent Dragon King. Passing Fancy still not showing much here. Sad to hear that Sonja is a slow increaser, as I bought it for spring. Of course, Rose Kennedy in its background. Does Phillies Pinstripes have the slower opening of parent Key to My Heart? Pink Aloha has multiplied well here, but blooms vary quite a bit. Surprised to hear about Debra's moving musings, but then again, being alone myself again, I understand the feeling of vulnerability. Pink Panther Paws photographs well and is a good grower. Papaya Gumdrop --a Hanson Picture in Picture --nice flower, but modest bud count and increase. Party Pants. Like many others, not as nice as 2022. Good Height. Party Girl Panties --Hanson (no surprise) Pink Thunderbird --older Hanson At Crintonic in 2021 Party Every Day ---Davisson too soon to evaluate. Playing With Crayons --not as tall as some Davissons, but a good 30 inches here. Early, very vivid color. Out of Wispy Rays. Painted Demon by Dan White Please Say Yes. A reliable Carpenter. Purple Lives Matter. Still haven't seen it at clump strength. Later blooming (out of White Eyes) Pray Without Ceasing. Generally, quite recurved like this. Too soon to evaluate. Purdy Rich. Increases well. Shorter this past summer, though not stunted. Blooms a bit smaller and not as consistent as Diana's Evening Gown, but better grower. I would not call it "lavender" in this climate. Persian Ruby. I certainly agree with David's positive assessment. Good height here; much better than parent Ruby Spider. Reliable. Only picture from 2023, since I have many of it. Pineapple Bites. My only pic of this newer plant. Pewter Lake --this silvery lavender Moldavan is an attractive color in the garden....See MoreT daylilies 2024
Comments (16)I see that To God Be the Glory is a huge bloom out of Seminole Wind. Tangerine Tickles is an appealing color (a Grossman). I also like the colors of Thundering Voice (seldom see it pictured) and the peachy pink tones of These Foolish Things. After years of hearing the praises of The Bride of Dracula, I ordered it. Tyger River, a bonus, has not performed well. 29 Flags over Conway looked pretty good last year. Thelma Douglas has had crowded scapes and hang-ups. Also, short last year. I am now wary of its progeny. Individual flowers can be beautiful. The X Files is a striking flower. I am waiting to evaluate plant habit. The King is Coming has not been a fast increaser (Carpenter), but had some nice blooms last summer. Not tall. The Goldilocks Effect is an older Hanson. Had an off year, but I wonder why it isn't more widely grown, as it has an intensity greater than other polychromes I know. Tattered Heart had such a good year in 2022 (pictured), but much less impressive this past summer (to the right is Drew Hoo). I too like Thomas Tew (good taller scapes). Sib Christopher Moody was shorter with lower bud count. Tahiti Sweetie looked good last summer. It sometimes has lighter spots on segments. The sun shot adds a glisten, but it stands out. Teeth of Iron --slow increase Tactical Deception --vigorous and attractive smoky color. Hanson. Tao of Physic --looked better last summer than in prior years Emmerich's Truth Teller. Held up better in sun this year. Tickle Fingers --so far, less vigorous than some other Davissons The Dream Society had a very good year. Later blooming. Twitch --a more recent Davisson Tahitian Waterfall Two Sues had an off year. Tonight's the Night --rich color. Wish it were a bit larger, but nicely ruffled. The Food Channel Tar and Feather made a splash of color in the early season. Very dark eye....See MoreMaryl (Okla. Zone 7a)
