Need help with kitchen flooring, cabinet paint and quartz countertops

I am just starting my 1941 home kitchen remodel i want to stay true to the era of the home and thought black and white porcelain checkerboard tile on my floor - but not sure what size tile. I feel an 8X8 or 12X12 tile would be entirely too busy and wonder if i can get by with an 18x18 size? My kitchen is on the small size but i can fit a dining table and chairs in it along with having walkspace and also have a decent amount of cabinets. i dont want the kitchen to be busy - just simple and classic. i would like to use a soft blue/gray hue on the cabinets but am struggling with a paint color. Also, would a quartz countertop, with soft grey veining and used up as a backsplash be an ok choice? i intend to use a white undermount farm sink and chrome fixtures and pulls. i would appreciate your thoughts and feedback, as to my current choices, and any paint and tile suggestions. Thank you very much!!!
