Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 8/27/2023
Comments (23)Oh yes-- loving the cool mornings! It is 52 this morning ... my walk was short this morning but it was lovely! I am just so glad to be able to get out! I just saw a short video about clothing fit .. they did a comparison of a "good enough" fit vs "proper fit". Her point was that many women can/should go down 1-2 sizes. I have noticed the same recently .. sure, I have gone down sizes as I've lost weight but right before my vacation, I realized I was still wearing a number of clothes too big. Of course, I have lost a lot of weight and I am not going to replace my whole wardrobe so I do have some clothes that are oversized .. but even in the clothes I am replacing, I was sticking too close to my old sizes. My new strategy is to size down an extra size on base pieces and then keep wearing my oversized tees, sweaters and jackets. I went down an additional 2 sizes in tanks and an one size in long sleeve tees and athletic shorts. It has made a huge difference. Fall is great for this strategy -- I now have a few pairs of jeans, a short jean skirt and a long jean skirt that fit fairly well. I can add a belt (i splurged on all new belts a few months ago) a trim top and then layer on whatever I want! It helps that I have broad shoulders as I can carry off an oversized sweater or jacket. I am ready for some fun fall events and outings! I know this is a fairly self-indulgent post lol ... but I do think that looking good and put together as I am losing weight helps keep me motivated and most importantly feeling good about myself. I still have 60-70 lbs to lose so I think this strategy will also help me be wiser about what I DO buy. I admit, I bought some dresses this summer that weren't my best picks. They made me feel great when I bought them but 10lb later, they are too big and not as flattering as they were when they fit perfectly. I shouldn't be buying styles that are so fitted that 10-15 lb take them from sharp to dumpy. One final recent lesson-- I am fairly anti-shapewear. I am anti spanx. I just don't like squeezing myself into shapewear and I don't like how I feel wearing them. I feel like I am trussed and bound and can't move comfortably. Enter Shapermint -- they are SO easy to put on and really do help smooth the bumps and bulges particularly in stomach/muffin top area. They are also pretty affordable compared to some of the other shapewear products. I don't wear them every day -- or even regularly-- but I could! They are comfortable and easy enough to wear that I will throw them on with a pair of jeans if I want to look especially smooth and trim. I know it is not all about appearance -- improving my health is the goal but part of good mental health is feeling good about ourselves. I feel great about my progress but I haven't always felt good about my appearance. These little tweaks have me feeling good about the face I am presenting to the world so I am more inclined to go out and be more social. I smile more and I engage more. So many of us struggle with our appearance ... we focus on what we perceive as our flaws. We look in the mirror and frown (or is that just me? lol). Let's make an effort to be good to ourselves this holiday weekend! I don't have any plans or events this weekend but I am going to make sure that I don't look in the mirror and frown! I will smile at the people i see instead of looking down at the ground or stare off in the distance. I will engage positively with myself!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 11/19/2023
Comments (9)Funky yes being devoted to just getting in shape and losing weight is a losing venture. And it waxes and wanes for all of us right? At least it does for me! Shrug :-). Funky I admire your choices with regards to what to eat for Thanksgiving. I however am very confused by the words I don't eat mac and cheese.. but I understand that you don't think it's a traditional side. We've never had it as a side here but since I've been hearing about it more and more regularly from south of the border I have thought about making it. Shrug. I wish I didn't love cheese so much. It seems like the only thing I can't turn my back on as far as high fat foods goes. Gscience I am so glad you are feeling better. Glad you are able to wear your undergarment again! If I couldn't I might be one of those people who wears four t-shirts and doesn't go out at all. Not very comfortable without some kind of undergarment. Read br*a. I'm kind of forced into a pseudo nutrition based life. But if I didn't have to I tell you I would be eating entirely differently. First thing I would add is licorice :-) yes licorice. But I can't eat it so I make do with things like Bliss balls. They are not licorice they are second best chocolate. Well or coconut and chocolate I am continuing along with the same core exercises. A few times I've had to do it on Saturday instead of Friday but that has turned out just fine. We have been going camping and DH been riding his electric mountain bike deep into the mountains. I stay in the camper mostly and cook meals sew clothes that need a bit of tweaking which I want to wear for dancing. We have a lot of fun doing this. I obviously do my exercises there as well. We missed one week of dancing and boy did I miss it. We are practicing the two-step at home as the places we go are a mix of country and pop and rock for their dance bands. I will rock out at home and often it is music that I know I will hear at the clubs. :-). So I watch a lot of music videos and listen to a great variety. Last night at our dance they played Footloose. A lot of fun and everyone joined in. We are getting back on track with walking the dogs for longer every day and I'm glad that that is happening. DS and I have been struggling with the usual weather change migraines. So frustrating. Shorter more frequent walks are what we can handle when we're sick. I hope everyone is doing well and has a wonderful week!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 12/3/2023
Comments (15)I have been busy unraveling some medical mysteries…so annoying and somewhat stressful. Today I finally saw an ENT for a sore throat I have had for 3+ months. Something about a sore throat, for me, says ”you’re sick” or ”you’re getting sick” so it has really kind of messed with my head and my energy level. Anyway, I was diagnosed with larygopharangeal (sp?) reflux, or ”silent reflux” and start taking meds tonight. I will be so happy if it works! I have no heartburn or any other stomach symptoms, just the sore throat. Meanwhile (I feel so old) I have had a foot issue that the podiatrist thought was bursitis, tried 2 cortisone shots with no result, now doing PT and he thinks it’s actually a trapped nerve. It is just another minor annoyance and doesn’t affect my activity except that it’s hard to get motivated to exercise when you wake up every morning with a sore foot. We will be away again this weekend visiting DS but DH and I have both agreed that next week we need to re-start our healthy eating routine and maybe even start ”dry January” a couple weeks early (making exceptions for a few holiday gatherings). We keep trying to establish a routine of walking 1/2 hr after dinner every night but it is reallly hard to start that up when it’s cold and dark! We should have started in the summer so it would truly be a routine by now....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 12/10/2023
Comments (5)I am so sorry you have not been feeling well, Funky. We have had a bug going around, here. DS had it, and then DH lost his voice for a day, with a little cough, but seems to have dodged the full cold, and I (knock on wood) might have dodged it all. I am still full on at Pilates. I LOVE that I can go to the App and pick up a class if there is an opening. I did that yesterday, with a class called Control. It started out like ballet, with plie' and relave', and continued with slow planks and some torturous sideline work on the reformer. Coordination is not my superpower, and I find it difficult to keep the ring between my ankles AND do something else with my hands, LOL. The storm that blew through TN on Saturday was too close, and I had a few drinks (vodka and that fizzy sugar- free drink from Aldi) while my DS and DH streamed one of the YT storm chaser channels. It is bad enough on the ipad!! My town's Bike/Walk group is starting up a walk group around downtown this week, and I may join in on that. They said dogs are welcome, but this doggie C0v1d needs to pass before I am willing to take the dogs out. Strange that C0v1d never bothered me, but I am scared my dogs will get sick!! Here's to a great week!!! (Clink)...See MoreFunkyart
