PLEASE Don't Ask Me!

DH and I are friends with two couples who regularly ask our advice in our areas of expertise usually for major decisions. In every instance, they will do the exact opposite of our recommendations. I have to admit this infuriates me because I take the time to provide the relevant facts, give the pros and cons of each potential decision and prepare a thoughtful response appropriate for their situation. Then when the outcome is disastrous, they are surprised and almost imply we should have intervened. This have gone on for over 20 years.

Both couples are brand and social status conscious which I suspect drives them to make bad decisions. DH and I no longer respond to requests for advice. When disaster strikes, we offer empathy. Both couples are educated, professional people who have since retired. Other than this one quirk they are fun loving and loyal friends.

Our motto now is "Don't ask us!" LOL

Are our friends odd or is this normal? I can understand not opting to take our advice every time, it is the fact they NEVER in 20 years have taken our advice yet they continually ask for it.
