Need to cover my windows in my kitchen - corner dilemma
Comments (10)As Herbflavor suggests, curtains that would flutter in a breeze would add charm and be a softening feature in a room of rigid elements. These days they're not the usual thing either. You'd be avant garde. One of these days I'll come on line and find that curtains are once again "haute" among the middle classes. I've been watching for some years now, frankly, but only see them in magazines like Elle or House Beautiful or in the occasional commercial. Peculiarly, the kitchen in Something's Gotta Give had curtains, but they were about the only detail not copied adoringly. Just not their time again yet? Could the fact that our 10-year-olds could sew up a set of custom tiers using Grandma's old sewing machine also be a factor in their delay? (The over-unified decor industry is making me very cynical these days. What do shipping containers and the cost of cargo space have to do with all the flat picture frames we see everywhere?) Have fun, Phyl. Your room's lovely, and I do agree that solar shades would be very attractive and functional....See MoreCovered patio with two story windows - will it look okay?
Comments (11)Consider building building your patio the width of and in front of the roof line on the LEFT with a "greenhouse/sunroom" (clear or semiclear) roof that is above your upstairs windows but beneath your roofline. You could have a gentle slope to the roof to move rainwater away from the house but your patio roof would not need to be square or rectangle; instead, you could create the shape of five sides of an octagon. You could have a ridge in the center of the patio roof closest to the house -- a ridge parallel to the two sides of the patio roof that are at a right angle to the house -- sloping the patio roof to left and right of that ridge. Then you could use the end of the ridge farther from the house as a center point from which you could slope the roof in three directions forming the three other sides of the octagon shaped patio roof....See MoreHelp! How can I cover a glass brick window in my shower?
Comments (17)@tracefloyd That's crazy! LOL! There are two large windows in the bedroom, so plenty of natural light. There is also a skylight in the bathroom, and that brings in a ton of light. It's another issue, to be honest, because I work VERY early in the morning, so in the summer it's like daylight in my bedroom, even with blackout curtains on the windows. I was going to order a shade for the skylight, but if we decide to just put a door in instead, I suppose it wouldn't be necessary. So hard to decide what to do! Thanks for your input!...See MoreCan you paint over yellowed (fiberglass?) windows/skylights?
Comments (2)I recognize the rectangular pattern as a skylight that was marketed in the SF Bay area as a Cemcel unit. You have given us just interior shots. Can you show us what these look like on your roof? I think these are just curb mounted skylights that can simply be replaced with glass. Picture #2 does puzzle me some, I will admit....See MoreMichelle NJ
