Comments (19)I found the tax shelter in this posting when searching for a gift for my brother. He is a tax preparer and has everything. So I just had to share what I did for him. I took one of those woodcraft houses from Walmart- removed the two screws from the base. I cut a 1" block of wood that fit into the bottom of the house. I glued this block onto the base thus allowing the top of the house to be easily lifted off the base. I cut a 1/2" groove in the center of the block with the table saw so I could set a card of thumb tacks into it. This was hidden in the house until the top was lifted off. I wrote a poem for this & read it to him while my daughter did a Vanna White presentation of the house. Everyone got a good laugh out of this and I finally did a complete craft project! It's been a while. Hope you have as much fun with this as we did. Here's the poem: I drew your name for Christmas It's an honor, don't you know To get my brothers name for Christmas Ah! ashopping I will go. But then I started frettin After searching high and low Whatever will I get 'im (Twas wrong to worry so!) I went into an office shop Maybe something for your desk? I talked to the clerk a lot She tried to aid me in my quest. He could use a tax shelter Is what the lady said It seemed a bit off-kelter But there was nothing left instead. So here's your little shelter All painted so very nice The foundation has been mended The roofs' been polished thrice. The flowers are all blooming In the big pot by the door The bumblebees are buzzing And there's no sawdust on the floor. It seems to be the perfect place I do agree she's right It sure beats a plain old case And your tacks! They're finally safe at night!...See MoreOne whole chicken, a new Crock Pot,
Comments (41)Stacy hit the nail on the head : " With new babies and other little ones, we are lucky to get Spaghetti'o's for supper LOL. Add to that we have one,two or three little ones added to DH and I in our queen sized bed every night so understand about the sleep deprevation. " Drake is teething like crazy and was vax'd Thursday and won't go to anyone else and won't play in his exersaucer or on the floor, he has to have momma. That's why I needed a recipe for a whole chicken in the crockpot, I didn't have the time to take it apart, and didn't want to use the oven. Thanks for the recipes, ya'll. Changeling, it's ok. It wasn't entirely you, and I forgive you anyway. I just don't cook the way I used to. It's exactly like Stacy said, some nights I'm lucky to get a can of anything opened for supper. I simply don't have the time or sanity to prepare an elaborate meal. And the forum has changed since I first started posting here, not saying that's bad, just saying that I haven't been able to keep up with the changes because of the direction I've gone with my life. Lyra had it right, too - I come here to visit old friends more than to post about what sides might go with apricot-chili pork loin. I don't have the opportunity to drop in often because of my two little ones. If I'm AWOL, it's because of them. : P...See MoreCrock Pot/Slow Cooker
Comments (20)Ccountry_bumpkin_al, let me know how the liners work out in the Nesco. I bought some but haven't had a chance to try them yet. I was thinking they'd work well for ribs and things with tomato sauce or something that would tend to burn on a bit more easily. Otherwise I've been lining it with foil when I want an easier cleanup and that works well. As for a recipe? Sometimes I'll brown the ribs a bit first but not always. Make a rib rub using your favorite spices, rub some ribs and cook about 275ð for 2-4 hours with a bit of beer, Dr. Pepper, root beer, water, vinegar, 7Up or a liquid of your choice. Add a little BBQ sauce when they're nearly done if you like for nice, tender and tasty ribs. You can crisp them up after too if you like, but it's optional. I've gotten to the point I like a dry rub rib better than dripping with sauce. But, saucy ribs are good too. I usually make little foil packets for easier cleanup and it seems to cook them better too....See MoreButter Crocks and Retailer question
Comments (12)I have a butter crock or French butter keeper or whatever you want to call it. And while the nuisance is not so much changing the water as having the drip when you want a bit of butter. I have a glass butter dish with a lid that stays on my counter all the time. I put about 1/3 of a stick in it since I live alone, and it just stays out all the time. In the 3 or 4 days it takes to eat the butter it doesn't get nasty nor rancid nor become a puddle nor anything but just soft spreadable butter. My house is airconditioned and it's a rare occasion when my kitchen gets warmer than 74 degrees. Butter is fine at that temperature for a few days.
