Anyone starting peppers this weekend around Chicago?
Comments (13)Yes, Mike - you will have LOTS of extra's! So far, I have 21 varieties of Heirloom toms started, with 6 seeds per variety. Peppers just getting started this weekend. As others pointed out, there is nothing to be gained from starting too early. Mostly, you'll end up with leggy plants before getting them in ground or buckets. Then when they do hit the dirt outside, it's only as good as the soil gets warmth. We know that one right DirtDevil? : ) Even in June of last year, my toms needed protection from the cold weather in the city. The past 3 Springs here have sucked big time. Somewhere, we have lost "Spring", and summer doesn't hit until mid July. Remember, last year? Memorial Day - Rain & Cold, 4th of July - rain and cool - Labor Day - mostly rain, some sun, cool temps. Then it got warm again! One thing about Chicago, if you don't like the weather - stick around for 15 minutes and it will change! Happy planting! Comments (38)I bought the Monarda seeds from Parks because I don't have any in my yard and I don't know anyone else in the area who had any growing in theirs. I did take some seeds and chaff from the Astilbe that still had tops poking through (before we got a lot of snow). I WSed those last week. (I was amazed at how well the Astilbe did in all shade as opposed to the ones that were in part shade!)...See MoreThe rest of the story: My 4's day!
Comments (13)Tough day! Glad your hip is going to be okay. I fell on campus last week and have a nicely skinned knee, bruises, and a pair of ripped jean. The univ physical plant department looked at the sidewalk and agreed it was deteriorated but they are still trying to figure out is the university has to fix it or the city. Keep us posted on your recovery and your dealings with Walmart- they better take care of your medical expenses!...See MoreMy interesting drive to Chicago last night
Comments (16)Alisande, I doubt he'd be after me, I drive a Honda Civic. Yes, I am very careful usually when I stop, but after a big old cup of coffee I needed to stop. All of the other rest stops are actually much brighter and safer to stop at, also with more cars. I guess I'll just stop at a gas station. Funny story, once when I was with my DD and she was about 13 years old I wanted to stop at this store in my hometown called Transformations because I liked the glittery gowns in the window. Yup, the "lady" working there was not a lady. We didn't buy anything, lol....See MoreSueb20
