Comments (32)Dear GuppyGuppy, it is ME who owes the apology. I somehow missed your meaning and flew off the handle unjustly. I sincerly hope that you can forgive me for the tyrade. I feel that I should try and explain why I reacted so strongly. You see I had just yesterday received an email sent directly to my mailbox berating me for this thread. The person apparently did not read and understand my meaning when I orginally posted. Well couple that with the recent death of a dear neighbor on Monday(the second neighbor to pass away in less than two months),a terrible fire, and health concerns of my 85 year old father and my spouse, well I am just about at the end of my teather. Yet that is no excuse for tearing into you unjustly. I did'nt mean to lash out at you or anyone else. Again, please accept my appologies. Btw,my day off was much needed and enjoyed. Thanks again. Comments (12)This is very interesting. I appreciate you posting it. My previous cat (to the 2 we have now) was lost to a vaccination site sarcoma. Since that time I just about go into major anxiety mode when I have to get a pet vaccinated. Our cats have to be registered and rabies is obviously required, so there's no getting around that. Other than that I had them vaccinated every 3 years when we did the rabies booster, no more often than that. The last time I only had boy shot up for rabies though. He never goes anywhere and was routinely vaccinated until he was 10 or so. I feel in his senior years he doesn't need that stress on his body. Since the girl kitty is sick with kidney disease and hyper-t, the vet wrote her a waiver, so no more vaccinations for her ever. The thing is, it never dawned on me that her kidney disease might have been caused by the combo vaccine. Thinking back, it wasn't too long after she was vaccinated that her health started to dive a bit. She wasn't diagnosed for a little while after that. I think this is a very real possibility for the cause of her CRF. :( I always tell my DH if I ever have another vaccination site sarcoma cat, it will be the last cat I ever own- it was so hard to deal with the first time. It's depressing to me to think that my current kitty's health problems may also be the result of vaccinating. Some days I think I should not own cats anymore. As much as I love them, I feel like I keep failing them. Thanks again for the information. Education and information can only improve within the veterinary industry, I hope....See MoreWWYD - Vacation Home Hosting Request
Comments (54)"Running I’m wondering as well, if they hit it off with everyone at Christmas, they may genuinely also want to see you and spend some time and may be under the impression you had just as much fun." No the texts stated that they are coming to the Keys with their friend and asked if the friend could stay with them after I invited them based on the broad hint that they wanted to stay over Saturday night etc. As I've commented before it is clear they are NOT coming for a visit to us. To be fair however I will try to reserve judgment till we see how things go. The lesson in this situation is the familiar one: fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. From now on with this relative and with everyone else we won't be caught off guard. We will use our polite spine which is a great phrase I picked up on the internet somewhere. If we feel ok about hosting we will. If we don't we won't. We definitely need to get our minds right about how we will manage access to our place. It's pretty amazing for visitors: deep water (ocean) access in the Florida Keys very close to some of the best dive/snorkel reefs and a house that was fully remodeled by the previous owner. So not only is everything nice looking and fresh but we have stocked it with canoes and kayaks and we even have a pool for lounging and sunbathing. My son leaves his flats boat there (small skiff type that can poke into lots of shallow fishing areas). We sometimes take the boat out for dinner at local waterfront restaurants. As is normal down there the house is two levels. The apartment is a full 1/1 on the first level that is completely separate from our living area upstairs. We've already hosted almost every holiday since we bought it for our extended family and love having them and good friends visit. I just need to be clear about how much family and friends can expect to decide when they come rather than US deciding when they come LOL....See Morebit of good news about middlebrow east coast landscaping practices?
Comments (9)Too late for editing. It's an adult-oriented and mostly adult-populated forum...surely we can handle the S word where appropriate? Moderators - you are free to mod it LOL. Yes Yardvaark is basically correct, DC is the world's largest company town, HOWEVER, a lot of the ones with ridiculous money are not directly involved in government lobbying but instead with some some loosely associated function like media, or 'obscure media'. like Bloomberg BNA, or 'companies that happened to think DC was a good place to relocate to', like AOL. That started in Ohio IIRC. Or more pertinent to the continued price spikes of late, Amazon. Or they were in industries that could skim off the top of all of this - one of my parent's wealthiest friends was a veterinarian. Easy to build up a large successful practice when the suburbs of DC were some of the countries fastest growing for several decades, with a large population of people with stable jobs and money to pamper their pets. Also from what I observed both growing up where I did and stories I hear through the grapevine now, while the PNW has many wealthy Asian immigrants, the suburbs of DC are where a lot of Middle Eastern and Europe monied choose to "anchor" their babies, to put it bluntly. For example, at my high school I knew a second cousin of the Shah. And another kid associated with middle-eastern 'royalty' the details of which I can't even remember. Possibly related to Anwar Sadat. (conversely, some friends of my parents knew the erstwhile Lisa Halabi!)...See More- 2 years ago
