Help with exterior colors & curb appeal
Comments (34)Oh man that's great! Thanks so much for the photoshop that really gives me some ideas. The colors are wonderful. I like that curved path, the one I drew for some reason just didn't have the flow but this one makes much more sense. Not only that, the house is at the end of a dead end street. To the left, there is nothing. I'll take more shots tomorrow when it's sunny out. When the mail man comes to deliver mail, he usually cuts through the grass anyway haha. For some reason the downspouts always show up much redder in the pictures than in person. I brought a brick sample to sherwin-williams and had them match the brick. I still need to throw another coat on so I'll go back and have them tone down the color some so it doesn't stick out as much. The photoshop definitely makes me want to open at the very least the front of the porch adding wider steps. The sides I may or may not open. Also even if I do need to get rid of the tree, I think the landscape would still work. Unfortunately most of this is a few months away as it's no fun working outside when it's 20 degrees out but I can't wait. Now, on to decide to use pavers or concrete, and what color......See MoreHelp with Exterior Color Scheme, Landscaping & Curb Appeal
Comments (18)Sabrina, thank you. I love the idea of black trim, my husband and I discussed that and it seems like a few others like this idea as well. Sandra, I love the idea of printing out the photo and coloring the area to see what works. Zibbe, you are right, we are less than 2 blocks from Buzz Cafe and close to the Conservatory and the park. Beverly, thank you for all of your ideas and photos. I love the planters and FLW style. I will definitely incorporate a lot of the ideas that you all have shared. I appreciate everyone's feedback and ideas....See MoreHelp: Exterior/Curb Appeal color for a Red Brick House
Comments (4)Google "shutter colors for red brick house" and you'll see a lot of nice suggestions. I like the ones that show pale grey-blues or pale bluish-greens. I do think that red brick actually leans toward terra cotta, and red doors kind of clash with the brick. I could see the pale blues on both your shutters and door. I think I'd remove the shutters on the main window because being so close to the door, there actually might be too much color....See MoreExterior curb appeal help needed
Comments (15)Although my personal preference would likely be for more symmetry with regard to the plantings of shrubs, etc., closest to the house, you have a really nice house and yard and every reason to be proud of it. Something to consider might be to move the rows of plants now set along the foundation/exterior wall of the home, especially those that are different plants in the same row or the same plants but different heights, into the yard into groupings of similar plants where they get the amount of sunlight they need. Certainly would not sweat over that, though, as long as you like the plants you have where they are. In that first pic there is a retaining wall near the porch. If you cleared all the plants from in between the wall and porch, you could create a tiny patio for two seats and a table there, accessible only from the porch, by using plants to create a (waist high) green fence around it -- then you could add potted plants that can give you greenery and blooms during the season(s) when you would be using the patio most. You could use pavers with grass growing in between the pavers or all around a square or round or rectangle shaped "floor". You could even enhance the retaining wall to have it double as seating for your mini-patio....See More- 5 months agolast modified: 5 months ago
