Rebuild the wall to accommodate pocket doors. You can leave them open most of the time but close them when you want separation. French doors take up too much floor space for the door swing and barn doors are icky. I would not completely close off the space. The flow is nice to maintain.

I like the LR to have the FP and the FR to have the TV you avoid the issue of TV above the FP and you deal with only one focal wall in each space .The pics of the spaces are distorted so hard to get a feel for the space . The drawing I cannot read anything on . I am not sure what the need will be later for some separation as you age. I like adult conversation in a space with no TV .Duplicate posts are irritatiing and the reason you do not get answers is you do not post things we can work with . Post a to scale floor plan on graph paper show everyu window , doorway where those lead . Every measurement clearly marked post here in jpeg format so we can enlarge the drawing. If you are "rebuilding everything" then surely you have floor plans of the entire space you could show. Ideally they are in your computer so you will not need to use a camera to capture them.

It's difficult to see how all the spaces relate just looking at pictures. Seeing the plan ties everything together.

No door. I would do a cased opening like you have now but not quite so wide. Looks like it is now 72" wide. Try a 48" wide opening.

If you want more/ better responses, do as PPF suggested. A floor plan of the existing space and the proposed changes. Enlargeable so we can easily read the dimensions.

I agree with Kendrah. Leave it open, or put in pocket doors if the wall can be engineered to hold them and the load weight. Don't put in French doors, swinging doors, a barn door (icky, yes, and takes up valuable wall space that could otherwise hold pictures), etc. Is there anything else in the house that matches the design at the top of that opening or is it just a one-off?

House is down to the studs. So no walls now. That is an old design.

Throwing a wrench - I told them I didn’t want a bulkhead ( old kitchen had no bulkhead). They wanted to add a bulkhead and I said them to figure out a plan with plumber for no bulkhead. There is plumbing up there that are hiding with upper cabinets…to right of right window I think.

Get the house, a hard measure, and drawing, all of it on one large piece of paper, every foot and inch. As it exists this moment.

I would do French doors, though I agree that they can take up valuable wall space. They are beautiful and would look lovely in that opening.

However, you stated that you are down to the studs. Since you are essentially rebuilding, pocket doors are the best answer.

Adding glass pocket doors, if feasible, is a nice option to reduce sound if one person is watching TV in the FR and the other wants to read in the LR.

If you have the opportunity while renovating, consider lining up the LR/FR opening and the FR sliding door. This way the LR gets the benefit of the view and light through the FR sliding door.
