Is the Kohler cast iron sink too shallow?
Comments (7)I just purchased (awaiting delivery) a Kohler cast iron sink and I believe there was a choice for either 7.5" or 9.5". My current sink is 6.5 plus I will be doing undermount so I figure I'll be a little ahead going with the 7.5". Plus save a little money. I also chose the 7.5" because I didn't want to cut into the space for the trashbasket and slide out 2-tier basket. Regarding chipping and such, if you check out the kohler website you will see they offer a LIFETIME guarantee against chipping (on sinks sold after a particular date). That sold me. (even though the logistics of replacing one is not pleasant, the idea of the guarantee helped me have confidence to get it) My only remaining concern was minor and is the potential to break a wineglass or such in cast iron. There are solutions to help avoid that, but just something more to think about....See Moresink dish strainers for cast iron sink
Comments (2)Try FaucetDirect.com. I balked at the price of Kohler sink grids, too, and they had a better price. I like a Kohler grids a lot, for the way they're designed, and am glad I got them rather than something generic. I don't have experience with the dishrack. There are plenty of these that can be set into a sink, so, if I were you, I'd troll Amazon, W-S and BBB to see what's out there, and decide if there were any advantages to the Kohler one that are worth the money. As to the sink grid, they are partly for protecting the sink, partly for giving you a level surface for putting dishes on, partly so that whatever you pour down the sink doesn't get your dirty dishes dirtier. Things do get stuck under the grids, but a quick spray down is often enough, and it's very easy to lift out the grid to clean down the sink....See MoreKohler Cast Iron Riverby Sink?

Comments (2)Kohler makes cast iron farmhouse sinks. They are more durable than fireclay. There are also stainless steel and copper farmhouse sinks. Or soapstone. Any of the web based stores like efaucets or faucetsdirect will have the cast iron, fireclay or stainless farmhouse sinks. Even amazon and overstock likely have some. For copper you might have to hunt more--just google. Soapstone is usually made custom by a stone fabricator, though you can buy them off the self too from a couple of places. IKEA sells a fireclay one which is a great deal price wise. They used have both a single and a double, but I think the single may have had some supply chain problems and I'm not sure if it is still available....See MoreJoseph Corlett, LLC
