Your instinct is correct, that would be too many squares on the same wall. Can you move the mirror to the wall opposite the window and then put art on the wall over the sofa instead as acm said? Maybe a landscape, or something more abstract if you prefer. Don't be afraid to get something colorful. Anything goes as long as you like it and will enjoy looking at it.

I love the mirror but it doesn't feel quite right there. I agree a piece of art that you would love to look at from the dining room table, maybe including some color from the art in the dining room. Then perhaps bring the lamp table a bit closer so that you could easily set your drink there. And perhaps you need height on the other side as well, like a substantial plant. The little ones feel a little lost there.

You could paint that wall behind the sofa a nice accent color----maybe a deep blue, or sage, or even cover the wall with a nice shade of grasscloth.

The mirror doesn't have character and the rest of these two rooms ar oozing with it. Swap out the mirror for artwork, or if you really want to make this mirror work, hang vintage sconces on either side. They don't have to be electrified or even functional. They could be candle sconces or antique oil sconces. The bigger the better.

It's a sea of neutrals and that room is begging for some color somewhere. Get some beautiful framed art. See these photos for inspiration:

Pretty spaces. I agree that the mirror isn't quite right there - and is probably the reason the wall feels "off" to you. Get a piece of colorful art to replace the current mirror, move the mirror opposite the window. Then, angle the side chairs a bit and move them a bit further apart so that the room feels more welcoming.

I do not like the mirror I agree a piece of art would be my first choice for a change.

I wouldn't go looking for a piece of ''árt'' that big to stand alone on that wall. I mean, if you find something you think is great and you can afford, by all means buy and enjoy, but your furnishings are very lovely and unpretentious and I think an arrangement of things on the wall, rather than one big piece, things that reflect your actual interests and family personaliity would surely work just as well and probably better. I do tend to think your furnishings mean you what you hang on the wall will look nicer if framed. Not everything has to be framed art, however. Some types of wall decor can add interest and warmth that are not framed flat pieces, but are objects made of wood or metal, or glass, that join with other pieces for a nice effect.

I think a simple bookcase behind the small table with plants that you have to the right of the sofa would be warm and pleasant to have.

You have a great sense of color and proportion and it connects these two lovely and relaxing rooms. I think a gallery wall would muck this up. The size of your mirror is spot on and you are right, you will likely break the bank and drive yourself crazy trying to find good art that size. It is needle in a haystack hunting. I'd make finding that piece your five year goal. And, in the mean time do either of these as an in between phase to retain the great size of that mirror:

A.) Try a faux mercury finish on the mirror to tone down the brightness and add a small sculptural doo-dads on each side like sconces or matching plates or chunks of aged wood.

(Excuse my horrible attempt at replicating faux mercury glass!)

B.) See if you can remove the mirrors from the black frame and use the frame to surround some nice wallpaper to use as temporary art.

Lastly, please don't add colorful accents to this space in which you have mastered calm, warm neutrals. It is heavenly. What paint color is on your walls?

The room just needs some tweaking.

Adding a plant in the corner will also guide the eye up in the room.

The chandelier just seems a bit petite compared to the scale of all your furnishings. I'd select one with more width than height.

Yes, I hate that yellow lampshade. I guess I need to buy a new one as they all seem to turn yellow over time.

I can't remember the paint color for that wall, but I'm considering changing it...to darker or lighter?? The other walls are Balanced Beige.

I love the idea of a piece of art but until then I may add a sconce on either side of the mirror, or some sort of "doo-dad".

I had already considered that the chandelier is too small. I'm afraid to get another one with shades though, because the attached dining room chandeleir has shades. Thoughts?

Definitely going to add a tall tree in the corner. Those little plants I had just brought in and put them there to get some sunlight! :)
