Well, it's been done. But that wood is so, so lovely, and so characteristic and fitting with the architecture of the house! I think if you want to "lighten the look" you can do what they do in Europe and England in older homes (not old by our standards, old by their standards) with a lot of old architectural elements. You can have more transitional furniture with clean, elegant lines in lighter colors (but interesting textures,) maybe a dramatic jewel tone here and there and throw in a modern accent piece or two. This way, you are respecting the architecture and design of the beautiful house you chose to purchase or were lucky enough to inherit, but you are infusing it with a more contemporary style compatible with the current era and your own sensibilities. (And do condition and polish the heck out of all that wood!) Oh, but feel free to modernize the kitchen and bathroom if you need to. They must be like laboratories, totally functional, totally clean.

IMO you start the palette for bedroom with the bedding and I need pictures of the bedroom with the furniture that is staying in the space .

@houssaon - haven’t painted yet! Beach glass is lighter than what’s currently on the walls with a bit more green. I like option 3 @Jennifer Hogan - those are neat but too modern for the aesthetic I’m going for in this house. @modpod - haven’t painted yet. The only trim in the room is baseboards/door/window casements. I’m concerned the room would look quite anemic being all white with one accent wall. I do agree it’s classic but as the room gets very low natural light I feel like it might look a bit like a hospital ward? Once I remove the carpet and have the floors done I’ll be adding a large rug under the bed (to extend around it as well) with blues, greens, and creams. I might add a lighter throw and body pillow cover but bedding is set for now, just bought it and love it. I’ll think about the curved option but feng shui discourages mirrors in bedrooms and I feel like adding more things (art/mirrors) above the bed will make the room feel even more lopsided than it already does. Definitely in the very early stages of design but I very much appreciate all of the feedback! Thanks all!

Okay guys! So we've painted the room aesthetic white (it's night time time just overhead lighting) we will be installing the board and batten on the bed wall and initially was going to go 2/3 up the wall but we realized that it may be too high to hang a small photo above.. 65 inches? So if we go high we won't have anything g above. Our other idea was to go just slightly over half and make a ledge out of the board and batten and put a few photos on it. What do you think? See a few photos of ideas
