Relatively narrow, tall, good fall color tree choices?
Comments (7)Dave, Ken, thanks for the links. When I'm down at the Missouri Botanical Garden next I'll check on their purple beech see how its holding up to the sun. That Crimson Spire Oak page has links to some more nurseries there. Thanks. I could even live with a few more feet of spread. That would definitely fit I love them Tulip trees big and open grown also. A narrow one would take some getting used to, but would fit in more suburban spaces. My neighbor has one he transplanted where I can see it all the time, only reason I'm not itching to get one myself. Again, thanks for the links. There are just SOOO many cultivars available its difficult to keep track even though I keep my Forest Farm catalog handy for reading in the bathroom lol....See MoreTree/shrub with great fall color -- can anyone ID?
Comments (3)oh yes, cotinus! Thank you, Esh. I have been thinking about that shrub for days now as the leaf shape was so familiar but I just couldn't place it. I have a Cotinus "Grace" in my garden. Unfortunately mine is nowhere near this spectacular - the leaves have turned from blue/greenish to purple/plum, but have none of these wonderful reds and oranges. Maybe Grace needs a companion!...See MoreLarge trees with good fall color
Comments (20)I have tried Sourwood without luck. Most else grows for me but not that one, probably not acidic enough soil or something if I recall. A shame, its a show stopper. Yeah, this spot is gonna get a big tree. If my prediction of the future is right, two white ash and a weeping willow will be gone in 20 or so years so it will be nice if we had something with size to take over. The previous owners planted all my large yard trees in about 1956 and in twenty years only one (maybe) of those will be left. My plantings from the last fifteen years are only beginning to have a 3D effect. Thank goodness for the walnut trees but they provide more of a border....See MoreNeed help to ID beautiful fall color tree
Comments (5)Thank you folks, yes I agree too. It does also has cherry like leaves and trunk, but the shape was definitely not of a cherry tree (something that gardengal48 was not privy to)...See MoreBillMN-z-2-3-4
