Hi in Syracuse. We were surprised and happy to read your inquiry since it is so similar to our design issue and in the same area you are located. We are also in the CNY area and attempted to build a pool last year. We hit many issues-most having to do with our pool placement in our yard, that we have since changed. One other issue we had was the same as yours with the sundeck and how to do it. We have a pool ledge/sundeck in our design and we are wondering if you could share with us how yours was done and if you have success with it. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!! We wish to have it in the first step if it's possible. Our PB was not familiar with the sundeck and has since done one as well. (Maybe we have the same PB?). We are also wondering if you did install returns and if you felt you needed them. We are told we could have 6in water on first step and we are not sure if that's enough, although we think it is. Our sundeck design extends 6 feet. Any guidance/photos you could provide would be wonderful. Thank you in advance and we hope your pool turned out fabulous.

I had the same concerns, but decided to go with the sun deck in the end. Check out my posts here at garden web... Central New Jersey New Pool build I've read that if you cut open tennis balls and put them on the feet of the chair that the liner will be safe. Hi - Have been reading a couple weeks and so happy to have found this forum. We are in NY, just started the process and are stressed about choosing a liner also. I don't want to take to much time as my PB said it takes at least 3 weeks to come in once ordered. I did happen upon a PB website(somewhere in Ontario) that shows pictures of the liners and how they each look in a pool. Some are dark, but it was still much more information than I was able to find elsewhere. Hope this helps others out there. We still haven't made our final choice! You need a good quality fiberglass pool to withstand the freeze/thaw cycles. San Juan makes pools like this that can also double for ice rinks. I'm sure your Canadian manufacturers would also be aware of the technology needed. Fiberglass pools popping out of the ground are a result of improper installation technique in the vast majority of cases. You need the proper backfill and also a pump to remove stray moisture from underneath the shell to keep the pool in the ground. This is standard with the River Pools installation method.
