Your kitchen is lovely! Lots of things come into play when selecting a wall color. How much natural light to you have? Which direction does the room face?

I had great success ordering the sticky sample paint colors, looking at them against the stone and the floors in all different times a day (yes, it is amazing how much difference it makes). Testing colors will be necessary even with helpful links like this:

Our kitchen faces north. We don't get alot of light with just one window thats 48" wide with a 2 foot roof overhang from the roof. Have picked up some samples chips - but was looking for other suggestions. We have noticed when searching this matter that most of the kitchen cabinets are white and not stained wood. Edited my post to reflect we are hoping for a Benjamin Moore color. Thank you for the response!

I would select a paint that contrasts the cabinets and stone so they become the feature elements.

Look at Soft Chamois OC-13. I have it in north facing rooms. It has a touch of warmth but it's not obviously yellow. The ones Jenny suggested are worth a try, they are darker than Soft Chamois. I would also maybe look at White Down, Feather Down and Maritime White.

Was watching the video Lori - but your sample of Taj Mahal looks nothing like any I have seen. It is very plain in color. Also - as posted we are looking at Benjamin Moore colors. Thank you for link.

Great info by Lori, but also a bit confused. In the video Lori says quartzite and then quartz? Those small thin samples are usually ones given out by quartz manufacturers. Some quartz brands have come out with a "Taj Mahal" color/pattern.

I have used natural Taj Mahal quartzite slabs in 2 kitchens and would agree that they didn't look like that sample.

So was the sample a man made quartz or natural stone quartzite?

I'd start by making sure that your ceiling light and your under-cabinet light are the same wavelength. It looks like the latter is much cooler, making the stone look gray and barely match the flooring, which looks yellow. Until those are giving the same tones, it will be hard to find a paint to harmonize everywhere.

Agree with getting your lighting organized first then bring home a couple of samples you are considering, paint small sections on the wall and evaluate at different times of day. That will give you a true idea of what would work best and what you like.

ACM you are the only person to have noticed the lighting. Thank you. I have issues with pot lights at any range higher than 3000. The under cabinet is set to 5000 but is dimmable. The floor is a greige but more on the beige side. Part of this discrepancy could be my iphone's camera. You are absolutely correct that the counter is looking more grey and I couldn't figure out why when it has alot of cream and gold honey tones. In order for the counter to look as it should what should we have under cabinet lights set to? (3000, 4000, 5000). Or should I just have the pot lights set to 5000 again (also on a dimmer). We are planning 2 pendant lights that will also be dimmable led (up to 100 watts) over the kitchen sink. ACM what would you suggest we set lights at for best outcome? TY

Agree that it's not about dimming, which affects lumens (total light output), but about color (light wavelength). If you have 3000 in your cans you need to change your under-cabinet to 3000 as well, or at least not use it until your paint selection is done.

I really like your cabinet color and the Taj Mahal counter. I'm currently considering stained wood cabinets with Taj Mahal.

I would choose a color from the Taj counter so maybe take a sample to the paint store I happen to love 4000K LEDs but have used 3500K but anything lower is yellow and that is the last thing you want in that space .3000K is too yellow and will skew every wall color you choose . I agree all the lighting needs to be the same and I have never understood dimmers in a kitchen Put lighting on different switches to control how much light you need. I like the under cabinet to be separte so I can just turn those on for a midnight snack I like pendants to bo on another so after cooking and serving dinner I can just leave those on.

No. Dimming just gets you a lower light level (dimmer light), it doesn't change the temperature. Kelvins (temperature) and lumens (light output/brightness) are two different things.

That is a matter if opinion. I happen to think 4000K is too blue. It's all in what an individual prefers. Any light, whether natural or artificial, skews colors.

Laurie here are some more pics. Kitchen is dark without lights on as we have paper over windows right now. The last picture I opened the kitchen door and had natural light on cabinet. It is a small kitchen 12 x 11 ft. Pot lights as mentioned are currently set at 3000k. Our cabinets are maple with plywood insets. Gables are maple. All stained in provincial color stain.

WOW just turned the under cabinet lighting down from 5000k to 4000k. Have to say I was shocked at the color change in the counter. Alot more brown tones/taupe shows on the counter as opposed to looking gray as ACM had mentioned. Hubby will take pots down and we will switch them from 3000 to 4000 as well and see if I can tolerate them. Will be interesting to see if the cabinet color is reflected differently then.

It's nice that you have the change-able temperate lights and can play around to see what you like. I'd say to be open to the 3000K too -- if you like the 4000K then great, but you don't have to have it just because someone on the board says you should, you may like the 4000K but like the 3000K or 3500K better. That's the beauty of choices :0)

We can't find a 3500K light option anywhere. This is why I tried the 4000k with dimming. I was googling to fully understand what you were talking about as to whether the 4000k dimmed was equal to 3500k. I discovered the following: Some 3500K lighting products are either discontinued or are not Title 20 compliant. This includes light bulbs and fixtures in almost all shapes and sizes. Many of these products aren't being replaced by lighting manufacturers.

Regardless, if you have already have the lights installed, what matters is what temperature you can set them to and then deciding which of those settings you like.

I went with 3500K recessed lights for my house when we built in 2021. We bought from a lighting showroom that carried higher end residential products. But it us harder to find 3500K products, specially when looking for bulbs for some pendants. I found some 3200K ones by searching online.

Do you want a white or a color on the walls? We have Taj Mahal with BM Ivory White on the walls and FB Skimming Stone on the cabinets. BM can color match FB colors. The second picture here shows the wall color with northern light. Either one of these might look good on your walls.

Yes decide on your lighting first! I was constantly fighting w my contactor making me pick paint colors before my lights were even installed. I refused saying that you HAVE to have your lighting in your space before choosing colors and they said no you dont; have to and I responded well only if you care its done right the first time.

Off topic thought do you know what stain is on your cabinets if they were custom? I have Taj Quartzite and cream cabinets but addinga custom wood hutch and deciding stain. Thanks!

gillis95 our cabinet stain is provincial it is a great medium tone brown that shows the woodgrain beautifully.

I have to agree that video posted and the thin sample she shows looks nothing like any Natural Stone QUARTZITE. I think she might be showing a QUARTZ (made w stone and resin and uniform in appearnce since it's manmade). Every Natural Stone Quartzite slab will have a different undertone. I saw very yellow and even green slabs when looking.
