Suggestions on how to finish edges when using uneven/3D tile?

Hello! I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations on how to go about getting a clean, seamles edge or 90 degree corner when using an uneven/3D tile? Specifically, I'm interested in a fluted tile but not sure how a Schluter Rondec would work with these? Any suggestions or tips welcome!

Here is the tile design

I'm specifically concerned about how the tile inside the top of the niche will meet at the edge.

Can you use the same tile as you put in the base of the niche?

I just use smooth trim tiles all the way around the sides of the niche, that are deep enough to cover the entire depth of the niche. If I can’t find matching trim tiles, I use a contrasting stone that can be cut to fit, and a matching pencil trim.

I used a matte stone tile once that was easy to sand the edge to make an eased edge. Probably did not need pencil trim.

Maybe he will! Sorry-- I don't always catch all the posts. :-) As for where the stone ties into the wood trim, that should be caulked with a siliconized latex caulk that matches the grout. A for the switchplates, palimpsest isn't kidding. the cheapest I've seen matching stone switch plates is about 75.00 a piece, and that's just for a single pole switch cover or plug cover. The prices go up from there. As for color, there are a couple of things you could do here, depending on your taste. You could go with plain plastic plates (my preference would be cream to blend in as best as possible to the tile), or you could go with paintable plates and paint them to match the wood trim. Or you could either go with wood or again painted plates (whichever is applicable) to match your cabinets. Those would be my choices.

I had tile laid 3rd party through a flooring company. Big mistake. the contractor hired inexperienced workers who goofed up about 9 tiles (uneven/not adhering well and they have loosened) The contractor came back twice to fix it (complaining the second time) It's still not fixed...so I'm going to do it myself...I'm very handy and recently retired so i can take my time to fix them RIGHT. In the past 3 years EVERY installation job we hired out on our home has been screwed up. That's why i am going to do almost everything myself now. I have replaced a garage wall, repainted the outside of the house with replacing several pieces of wood siding, put in 2 windows (in dormers), refinished wood floors in 3 rooms, etc. I am currently repainting most of the inside of the house and refinishing a gorgeous oak staircase that was covered by carpeting. I only hired out for the tile flooring because i didn't have time then (working full time) and had never put in tile before.

I see two options. The first is to have your tile person straighten out the edge of the tile. Fabricate a reducer that's 1/4" thick i.e. the difference between your wood and tile), finish to match the floor and cut it to length. Undercut the door stops to the height of the tile so the reducer will slide under. Fill the gap between the wood and tile with something that's the thickness of the wood. Apply a little construction adhesive to the bottom of the reducer and install it, weighting it down until the adhesive dries. This can be done by closing the door and sliding wedges under it. The second option would be to use a matching baby threshold that would lip over the tile and hide the uneven edge. Fit it, fill the void, undercut stops and secure with adhesive. Trim the door bottom if needed. The bottom of the baby threshold might have to be shaved off so it sits level. If it's made for a 1/2" floor and your difference is only 1/4" you'd have to shave off 1/4". The first solution yields the lowest stepover height but is more work. The second is easy but has a bigger hump at the doorway.

Touche @ Cinar interiors so you are saying fine sand cant be micro fine sand? really ?Like i said months ago What your doing is repeating stiuff you learned from me right here .Honesty factor into your sales at all? best be honing in and reading up on your outdated scant knowledge of the tile business and industry standards. Like i said you put your foot in your mouth daily I hope dragon also knows better. Sealer may cover up mediocrity but if were being honest here on the upscale hooz instead of selling junk theres a real polishing issue that only gets rectified PROPERLY one way. You all have gone soft. focused on sales when you should be looking at your ethics and bettering the industry. really how many sales or clients have you gotten here??

Kelli_ga is on point. That's what we would do for a custom and appropriate finish. The metal edge trims are a disconnect here.

I had white tile in the shower with a subtle smooth large basketweave texture and it was easy to clean. It depends on the depth, size and sharpness of the waves. My interior designer even approved it!

She didn’t care for my other option which was small sharp cube projections at different depths. I think I’ve seen that used in a bathroom or shower on TV. Or maybe in a living area. It would still get dusty.

There are steam and water tools advertised for hands-free shower cleaning. Haven’t tried those.
