backsplash placement

I'm planning a tile backsplash. Of course it goes on the wall under the cabinets. Should it also go on the adjacent wall where the counter wraps around? Does it matter?

Also happy for tile suggestions! We don't want plain white but aren't settling on anything otherwise. Maybe blue? The counters are a carrara gold quartz. No real gold coloring in it though, more of a coffee brown.

(please ignore the fly paper!! We had a lot of people in and out this weekend... :))

Yes, I would carry it over to the wall where the counter wraps around. If affordable for you, I would cover the entire wall. It's a small area and the less it's broken up by different materials the better. If not I would take it up to at two thirds the height of the window. Here's a couple of tile selctions that would look nice. I could also see doing a vertical tile in a blue tone as well.

you have "boho chic" in the making. I'd pick a patterned tile and stay under the cabs. I noticed mostly the big beautiful windows w traditional casing...then secondly the slab cab doors with plain counters...you need pattern..... a nod to the traditional but the pattern you pick will state something extra is going on in the space..namely that eclectic kind of mix which you select based on color/pattern that you like. Go look at tiles with patterns/ bring in samples but stick to a smaller dose and dont turn the corner is what I'd do [ cabs at risk of getting overwhelmed-they are proportioned smallish ]

@cpartist that's what I think. But I've had tile shop people tell me that's the correct placement bc when you're in the kitchen it allows the entire pattern to be seen even with the upper cabinets partially blocking your view. So I didn't know if just looks weird in the photo. Have to admit it would be nice to avoid double the cutting cost. But in the end I'm afraid that placement would really bug me. I wish I was better at visualization - I'm struggling to envision what 1" of that tile will even look like. A bunch of scallops I think.

I typically do not tile end walls but in your case I would. because of the visual from left and right of the door. It appears that the countertop sits flush with the door casing so the tile should just go from under the wall cabinet to the door casing. He will need to pull the switch forward to set flush on tile and finish off the top edge with either a metal trim or pencil tile.

Changing out wallpaper or paint is relatively easy and cheap. Changing out tile is not. I would not recommend any wild tile patterns that you or the next owner will be ripping out before long.
