Newbie looking for basic under/in cabinet light advice
Comments (1)Under cabinet lighting solutions have to fit within very tight space constraints and are totally different from GU10 light bulbs. If you have dimmers, the lights could be used for aesthetic lighting and turned up full power for task lighting. UCL really works better for task lighting. As for in cabinet lighting, you could get some ideas from http://phantomlighting.com I would suggest a re-evaluation of your wants and needs. Take a look at the following thread on UCL. Here is a link that might be useful: UCL discussion continuation...See MoreUnder Cabint LED strip Lights Power Supply and Dimming Control
Comments (1)No for 1 if each run is small enough. No to 2. The LED UCL thread is sufficiently generic to cover both low voltage and line voltage (direct wire) LEDs. Here is a link that might be useful: LED UCL continuation...See MoreLooking for pics of kitchens w/under cabinet lighting
Comments (15)Paul_ma how do you like the Xenon Linear? I just saw a home display using it and was surprised how brightly and evenly it lights the under cabinet area with minimal heat. I believe the system I saw was also a Seagull and used 10Watt bulbs. Did you put your lights all on a single dimmer switch? The system I saw used a transformer built into a cabinet but the switch was able to control multiple lighting tracks that spanned several different cabinet walls. I have found that the larger strip fixtures that use Xenon lights still generate alot of heat similar to Halogen, but my impression was that heat was much less of an issue with the smaller bulbs used in linear lighting systems. Do you find the light output to be adequate? Another company I am reading up on that uses linear Xenon track lighting is called Kichler. They have both 5W and 10W bulbs available....See MoreIn search of the best under cabinet lighting, any ideas
Comments (13)Whether the thickness of the fixture matters depends on the design of the cabinets. I have IKEA cabinets with a "deco strip" attached to the bottom of the cabinet that hides the underside of the cabinet as well as the under-cabinet lights and wires. It hangs down 2-1/2" below the cabinet so it would hide a 1" or 3/8" thick light. The SlimEdge lights are available with color temperatures of 2700K and 3000K while the Enbrighten is switchable between 3000K-4000K-5000K. IMO 2700K is definitely too low (i.e., light is too yellow) for a kitchen and 3000K is on the border. Before deciding, I'd pick up one of these Commercial Electric Selectable Integrated LED Downlights ($20 at Home Depo), attach the downlight to a lamp (screw the connector into a lamp), and experiment with various color temperatures and brightnesses, shining the downlight at your countertop and other things (e.g., backsplash, food) that will be illuminated by the under-counter light you ultimately choose....See MoreJeffrey G. and Mary C.
