Taj Mahal Quartzite chipped upon install

I also have a chip in my Taj Mahal Quartzite. ( still being installed as we speak and its the piece next to the cooktop alcove sitting on the countertop on the bottom edge. About an inch. Fabricator coming today to look at but not sure if it can be repaired with minimal visibility. Now they are nervous to even cutout the wolf cooktop? The Black Taurus Granite Bar top has a 1/4 inch gap on the right side next to the wall also. They are thinking filling it silicone, epoxy???? Trying to be nice and calm here but lots of $$$$$

Fabricator is removing the Black Taurus Granite countertop and going to add a piece of stone from the leftover cutting board on the edge and seam it.

Photos would help ...

Also the best leverage you have when something is damaged before installation, is to not let them install it.

And don't pay the balance of the invoice.

We have had our Taj Mahal counters for about seven months, and have thus far found it to be impervious to pretty much anything and everything! Nothing has stained it, nothing has scratched it, nothing has etched it. It is absolutely gorgeous and is the first thing anyone comments on when they see our new kitchen. I, too, highly recommend!

@typeandrun, thank you for the response and feedback. Just out of curiosity, was honing an option when you were making your decision. This gives it the matte look but without the texture. We are going with a dark greenisland and warm white perimeter cabinets and I really like the Taj Mahal. I just want to make sure I get slabs that are more cream than beige. That's the toughest part b/c they look so different in the warehouses than they will in real life.

@Karen Lee, in some areas they sell 2 cm slabs and in others 3 cm slabs. Generally when people get 2 cm slabs they want it to look thicker, so the edges either get a laminated edge or a mitered edge ... those have to be glued on. The wrong glue might cause a reaction and lead to staining. In my previous house that geographic area mostly had 2 cm slabs, so I had a laminated edge. Never had any issues with it. My new build house is in an area with 3 cm slabs, so I just have an eased edge on the actual slab. No additional pieces glued on. Natural stone rarely perfect, looks similar to the Taj Mahal quartzite I just had installed, I have maybe two or three of those spots very small, just part of the natural stone.

How do you ever let customers see chips at install? Idiots. If you get it fixed before it's found, it won't be found usually.

To be fair I was RIGHT THERE during our counter install. No hiding anything. (and also to be fair - since they only had 3 guys - it was a good thing DH and I WERE there to help move and position the 2 5x10' slabs.

Yes I was here during install as well. Of course I did not see the Taj Mahal chip during the install but noticed moments after it was placed on the wall. As far as the Black Taurus it was cut too short about 1/4 inch gap on the edge.

Thanks Chispa, Yes I did ask if the black taurus can't be fitted correctly and look great I will have them remove it with replace with another slab. The black Taurus is really gorgeous and the Full wall backsplash against it looks really pretty but the gap kills it.
