Taj Mahal Quartzite Edge Discoloring
I had these Taj Mahal Quartzite counters installed a little over two years ago. We have absolutely loved them; however, over the past couple months we have noticed the edges of some of the counters turning this yellowish/brownish color on the edge (they did not used to look like this). That area also doesnt feel smooth/polished anymore, it feels rougher. The first picture is of the worst counter which is our buffet counter where we spend a lot of time (coming into the house/leaving the house, setting all of our stuff on. That counter doesn’t really get wet or have food on it. The second picture is of another counter edge that isn’t nearly as bad, more of a lighter yellowish haze.
Any idea what is causing this/what we can do? I fear it is just going to continue to get worse. I read somewhere it could be because of the glue? Or maybe picking up our skin oils?

Comments (28)We are using Taj Mahal quartzite for the periphery of kitchen countertop. It’s a large kitchen and will use two slabs for the periphery countertops and the back splash. Our Taj Mahal Is with greenish tint. I am asking for suggestion of another exotic quartzite or if not maybe granite for the central island that will be about 8 feet by 5.5 feet . Comments (16)Hi Chispa. That’s what I’m gonna do, test the slab and finalize my choices hopefully next week. Countertop is my last big decision, and I just want this kitchen done. I wish that this White Pearl “granite” slab is indeed a whiter version of Taj Mahal quartzite and not some dolomite or marble or “soft quartzite. “ I don’t even know how I can do the etch test as the salesman said he doesn’t have any small piece for me to take home. I’ll bring a glass tile and try to do a glass test. Comments (65)@typeandrun, thank you for the response and feedback. Just out of curiosity, was honing an option when you were making your decision. This gives it the matte look but without the texture. We are going with a dark greenisland and warm white perimeter cabinets and I really like the Taj Mahal. I just want to make sure I get slabs that are more cream than beige. That's the toughest part b/c they look so different in the warehouses than they will in real life....See Morechispa
