Schluter trim for shower niche?
Comments (16)I have another question about the trim. For the hallway bath we have oversized subway tiles (4x10 in) and we want to go with bright white trim. The bullnose (Rondec) might be better than flat (Jolly) here but I can't seem to find the bright white coated aluminum inner corner pieces anywhere for the niche. All I can find is bright white coated PVC corner pieces. So my question is two fold. Would you prefer color coated aluminum over color coated PVC trim for durability? Secondly, what if I do the rest of the trim in color coated aluminum but buy the PVC corner pieces? Would they age differently and look odd in the end?...See MoreSchluter for fireplace tile surround?
Comments (10)I can't enlarge those pics enough to see, but it appears so. you can't put wood next to the firebox, so i'm guessing they've polished the edges. all you need is some sandpaper from 220 up to 800 or so. I've done it. marble is very soft and you can put a honed finish on it pretty easily. if you want it shiny polished, you'll have to graduate up to higher grits. I'd stick w/a honed finish,,,no one will see it. You could also do chair rail molding for the outside if you didn't want to do wood. or the marble pencil liner that lays flat would be another option. I like your kitchen. are you doing the same tile as your backsplash? I'd do something w/some black for more contrast. maybe cement tiles, or the darker marble w/the nero marquino. like the chevron tile in my niche. that would good as your splash. this splash in a herringbone would look so cool..I'd take it all the way up to the ceiling in your kitchen, and above cabinets....See MoreFinishing edge Schluter strip Tile installer debate
Comments (10)It starts with the appropriate design. Without seeing where these dropped areas occur my first thought was if they could have been dry walled and been painted to be a part of the ‘ceiling’ and not tiled at all as part of the ‘wall’. Not to necessarily drop the whole ceiling. So assuming it HAD to be tiled you and your tile pro discuss the overall design and details. A seasoned pro will know the tile sizes in relation to the spaces are either working or not. If you hired a handyman type who is just ‘doing what they are being told ‘ then you own this. I have to question if they have waterproofed properly because any tile pro who knows their stuff would have questioned those tiles used on those slivered areas (regardless of wether or not you got the correct schluter edge ordered)....See MoreSchluter kitchen backsplash question...
Comments (2)I tiled right up to the hood bottom, and used Schluter on the sides...my backsplash stops at the range hood level...no uppers near by. I didn't use grout for that area, but in stead used the sanded siliconized caulk which was an identical color match to my grout. If the hood ever moves, vibrates even a bit, this will have some flex not to break down like grout would....See MoreHU-655806221
