Is it a functional retractable awning? It's worth saving for optional heat protection these days if it is functional.

The metal awning and supports are traditional. They were popular in the 1940's-1960's and could be replaced with similar styles much later, too.

Your new home is a classic, and looks well maintained. When it comes time to replace the roof, you could do standing seam metal, and continue it onto the awning.

Oh what a beauty! I would use my budget to rethink the landscaping on both sides of the walkway leading to the entryway. It can become quite the charmer!

How much do you want to spend? Replacing those columns with loadbearing wood columns and framing a new wood framed roof and a new low slope roof material could cost 20 or $30,000. Is that an expense you want right now?

That house will lose all of its charm if you remuddle that porch

You have a lovely, charming home, and I would keep it that way. Another vote here for working on the landscaping. Those bushes look so old and tired, and make the porch look sad. I would bet there used to be a wrought iron railing around the porch, too bad someone removed it.

No one 'wraps" steel decorative supports with wood. You can use white aluminum support posts.

You could change out the metal supports to some other decorative steel railing design.
