What varieties of roses are you growing, Andrea?

Okay, so when I discovered my new interest in roses, I went all in. Heres what I planted this year: life of the party, 2 pretty in pink eden, summer romance, 3 leonardo da vinci, earth angel, 2 alexandra of kent, 2 raspberry cupcake, bolero, marc chagall, pope john paul II, gettrude jekyll, 2 true devotion, miranda lambert, sweet mademoiselle, delish, pink peace, true inspirationton, Morden Blush, morden belle, and tess of d’urbervilles. AND I have 3 more arriving in spring! If you got through that list, THANK YOU!

Fish emulsion during the first year is good stuff. It helps build a good root system. I would stop using anything after the first part of Oct. to allow them to TRY and go dormant for the winter. I use Espoma Plant Tone or Rose Tone in my garden. I do it a little different than most people. I sprinkle 1/2 cup per bush on the first and fifteenth of every month. This way I have a steady flow of slow release food to the soil (April thru Sept.) all through my growing season. I make sure I water it in good every time I put it down. My roses respond very well to this feeding.

Hi! We often get a really nice flush in October when the temperatures cool down and the roses come out if the summer ”hibernation” caused by the July & August heat. December is often the coldest month and a good option for pruning before any January or February heat waves break dormancy in the plants.

You can still fertilize this time of year, but I think it’s not recommended when the temperatures are in the high 90’s or above.

@Liz9bSunset Thank you! I appreciate the advice on when to prune as well, because I was clueless about that as well. Happy to take advice from another zone 9b gardener. Where are you located?
