Kitchens Appliances Design Dilemma

Kitchen layout ideas. HELP!

I'm wanting to switch the old gas cooktop to a gas oven/stove and get rid of the old oven as well. Then will run the counter to to the right of the new appliance to create more counter space which is currently limited . Also would like to have a microwave/range combo above the new stove to create more usable counter space in the kitchen. Any ideas or pictures of anything similar I can use would be great. Thank you!

Your idea is a great one. It's actually a fire hazard to have a cooktop that close to a tall wood cabinet. Especially a gas one. It will also be nice to have countertop next to your slide in range to land hot items. Go for it.

Btw, you probably know this, the soffit above the current tall cabinet will need to be cut back for the future less deep wall cabinet. Hopefully there's nothing hidden inside of it like HVAC or plumbing.

Because you didn't specifically say so, I have to ask if you are contemplating a complete gut remodel. I don't know how you can make a change like you describe without doing so. The oven stack of cabinets doesn't look like it lends itself to being repurposed and the cabinets look pretty old. If so, we certainly need a complete floorplan as Jan says. You should also be looking at the pictures of kitchens in Houzz. There are literally millions of them. Those will show you what other people have done. A range instead of cooktop and ovens certainly looks like a good idea in your situation, but without being able to see the whole kitchen no one can know if there is possibly an even better solution.

As rantontoo stated, a 33" aisle is really tight. Where is the plumbing stack for the condo? Is it in the column in the lower left corner? I'm wondering if you might be able change the peninsula's shape to make it deeper and rectangular, creating essentially a galley lay-out. Like this: The above will require sacrificing a cabinet to run plumbing lines to the new location (and condo board approval). If you want to keep a table in the nook area, I wouldn't extend cabinets into that area. You'd be left with lots of floor space in front of them but not enough room for a table and chairs. Have you considered creating a banquette in the nook area instead? That would give you some additional storage and allow you to keep a cozy spot for friends and family in the kitchen.

Save $ doing the glass cabinet in middle only, because 1 glass cabinet is less than 2 & less electrical. it would also look balanced, too. I prefer a combination of glass & regular, to put things I want to show in glass & the other not to show in the others. It depends what is going in the cabinets & how much items want to be seen regularly.

I like your cabinets, and if they are in good shape you might keep them, but I am not fond of the layout, particularly the stovetop in the island. Figuring out a good, workable layout requires more thought then a quick post, but this is what I would consider off the top of my head:) Since you have a nice number of cabinets, you could lose some of the uppers on the sink wall. Then the sink could move up or down that run of cabinets and a stovetop with hood on the same wall as the sink run but at least 3 to 4' away. I would add more windows to that wall if it would not look odd from outside. I am not sure that could happen, but I love in my own kitchen's sink / prep space / stove without having to cross an aisle. I also love that my island does not have anything in it and I can use the whole thing for prep or whatever. This is what I mean by moving the stove to the sink wall though it would be better if in this example, there was another foot between the sink and range. Another possibility would be to switch the stovetop and sink, though the stovetop should not be in front of the window. The only other thing I would want to change is the backsplash. That is a personal choice but I like a simpler subway tile with wood cabinets. I think you have a very pretty kitchen but I lean traditional and not modern. Before embarking on a very modern look be sure it will blend with the rest of the home. This is my wood kitchens idea book with both new and older, refreshed wood kitchens. I would put the fridge on the corner by the dining area. If there is not quite enough space to the left of the window trim, a stub wall could be built out (red block) to match the bump-in on the other side of the dining room. Then center the sink between the windows, with the DW to the right. You might be able to run the drain under the toe-kick, which is what one GW member did (link at end). The range would stay in m/l the same area. I drew the island at 50" (depth of two 24" base cabinets plus 1" overhang on each side) to accommodate two seats on the short side, and two seats on that end. The work aisle would be reduced to 48". You could make the island all one level, and no one would be seated directly across from the cooktop. (I don't care for a cooktop in an island, especially an island with seating, but I also understand not wanting to move the 220v line on a slab.) You now have two work zones--an efficient prep and cooking zone, and a separate clean-up/dish storage zone, so that helpers can load or unload the DW, or gather dishes to set the table, without interfering with prep tasks. That leaves the wall at the top, which could house a wall oven (more expense if a 220v line is installed, and more expense if using a separate cooktop), and/or a tall pantry, or a coffee/snacks center for the living area, or a combination of those options. We need more info, a to scale floor plan as mentioned with every measurement clearly marked do not include any cabinets in the floor plan just show with an X where the gas line is. Are you in apartment or a house ? A rough ideaof budget and then read the ansers some you will not like just take them all in. There are many KDs on this site so listen. Please DO NOT strat another post . The floor plan the pictures and anything else pertaining to this topic are dealt with in comments here .
