What to do with tiny kitchen pantry that I don't need?
Comments (6)Just a note. If this is a condo, it's possible that pipe vents and electric may be running through your walls to the unit above or below. This could limit your possibilities. If this is a condo, I recommend you try to find some other unit with extensive remodeling so you can find out what might be running in the walls. Otherwise, it's time to make some small openings in the soffits and walls to see what's in there. Personally, I would change the drywall pantry to a small cabinet pantry. You'll still gain counter top, but not lose the benefit of a pantry that most people prefer. Two photos showing the same thing are not as helpful as two photos showing different sides of the kitchen....See MoreHelp with my tiny galley kitchen layout?
Comments (9)Thanks so much, everyone! These are great ideas. I'm definitely not opposed to a 24-inch sink—that's the size of the sink in my current (rental) apartment and it suits me just fine. But would it be possible to squeeze a trash pull-out into a 24-inch cabinet? I'm less sure about a 24-inch range because I do cook a lot, and I tend to use the full width of my 30-inch oven for roasting big sheetpans of vegetables and things like that. I hadn't considered a built-in oven and cooktop because of the extra expense, but it would make a lot of sense given how narrow the space is. benjesbride, here's the full layout of the apartment: The entrance to the kitchen was originally a doorjam that was less than 30-inches wide, but we had the contractor take the doorjam out and raise the height of the entrance, which has already made a big visual difference, even though it's only widened the entrance by about six inches. I had thought about removing that wall next to the sink entirely, to open up the kitchen to the dining area a bit more, but I decided it might be a little odd to enter the apartment and immediately be confronted by a dishwasher....See MorePlease Help! Townhome Furniture Layout
Comments (9)For both areas, you're going to need furniture pieces in a narrow profile. Measure twice - buy once! (for both spaces, plus the size of the furniture) Furniture looks different in a second hand store than in your place. Even chairs need to be measured. Depending on their design, they could be huge, and might not fit in your space. You don't need to fill up the space - just be sure each piece of furniture does double duty. For example, get a round coffee table that is a storage ottoman. That way you can use it as storage, extra seating for guests, as well as a place to put a drink. (get a large tray to put on it for that purpose) Take advantage of your vertical wall space. Put shelves there. When you get a piece of furniture, think to yourself - what else can I use this piece for? 1. In a living room of this size, you want to go for the smallest arm rests possible for the couch/love seat/upholstered chairs.. 2. For your coffee bar/nook, how many people do you usually have there? How about a round table in the middle and a few chairs around it?...See MoreLighting Dilemma in Townhome--Dueling Chandeliers?
Comments (1)I need to see the space and the pieces you are thinking about IMO both the same would be the easy answer and I sure hope what ever you choose lights the area not the ceiling....See MorePaul F.
