My Encore's are still blooming!
Comments (1)My lemon lights is blooming too (yellow flowers and red leaves - ugh), although it's supposed to bloom in spring. None of my other azaleas or rhodies are blooming. I'm blaming it on stress: I just bought the thing as a pathetic little orphan a few weeks ago, and it had a couple of blooms then (fragrant, so its "scheme" to attract a buyer worked ;) ). I'm hoping to have some blooms in spring, but not optimistic....See MoreMy Encore's are still blooming!
Comments (1)Encore azaleas are a compromise. What they call a feature is considered a problem with other azaleas. They first bloom on buds that went dormant during the winter. Then they bloom on new growth. Ideally these blooms will not exhaust the buds and some buds will be left for next spring. However, I am guessing that the early spring we had and the mild fall we are experiencing will take its toll on the spring bloom. On the bright side, Encore azaleas were developed near the Gulf Coast so they should be able to take these conditions, so hope for the best. There is nothing you can do about it except wait and see....See MoreStill Blooming Today, Nov. 8, 2008
Comments (8)Those are BEAUTIFUL! I was just at a friend's house to plant a Tangerine Beauty Cross Vine (Bignonia capreolata) I bought for her 3 weeks ago at our semi-annual plant sale at Hatcher Garden, and after I got it firmly in the ground next to her fence notice she, too, still has some iris blooming alongside the East side of her house. I've had Rosemary blooming early for a month or more (usually blooms in January). Also planted her a winter Jasmine (Jasminum nudiflorum) I also got at the Spartanburg Men's Garden Club concurrent sale and IT had a couple blooms on IT, too (it's ALSO not supposed to bloom until January). If you plant carefully, in this part of the world, you can have blooms year-round! Happy Gardening! Jeff...See MoreStill here on Saturday August 20
Comments (13)After Awile Crocodile is a very nice plant and the fact that it's late makes it even better! Jean and Avedon, I highly recommend Elegant Finale--excellent bud count always looks good. Lynxe, Bermuda Coral is a really nice plant--and tall! I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Debra, Farewell Bouquet was splotchy at first, but it's doing fine now and has lots of buds to go. Cayenne has been blooming since late July and still has buds, but it only has two scapes so far. It doesn't start later than Sandra Elizabeth for me like it says on their website. Sandra Elizabeth just started today. roxanna, Lynxe answered your question for me. Thanks, Lynxe. Val...See More
