Plan is too small and fuzzy to read. Easy enough to have seating on the end, is the kitchen design suitable for waterfall- very sleek slab doors etc? For me island seating is for quick meals anyhow. You have a table adjacent for a more comfortable meal.

Hmmm... cabinet style is almost traditional, certainly transitional. Not slab.

There is a thread on the forum right now where the owner is attempting to install a waterfall island with overhang for seating. It's a total nightmare. The engineering required is ridiculous. I'd warn you away from any sort of waterfall that includes seating.

Looking at your layout, I see a dining table a few feet from the island. That's a great place to sit comfortable with your feet resting on the floor and casually talk and eat. Why would a group choose even a small L space at an island on stools?

There is zero point in having any seating at that island. It is so close to the table that it's an overly expensive duplication. Same with a waterfall. Unless the kitchen is uber contemporary, with a lot more space than it looks like you have, forget a waterfall. It's just comic in a traditional kitchen. Your aisles also look much too small to meet the 48" clearance all the way around.

The OP wants to replace the kitchen table. With an island with seating. Doesn't make sense to me but ..... What 's going in the space where the dining table currently is. I would never give up a table for island seating.

My preference would be to not have chairs backing up against chairs so i’d just do the row of stools myself. i prefer table seating though so may be biased. how much space do you have between table and idland?

agree no waterfall with traditional cabs. i’d slso consider prep sink if you want to prep on island.

What if you rotated the island ninety degrees, and put seating on both sides of it. I can't tell what the window wall consists of, but you could all look out the window instead of at the stove. It would probably be an island-slash-table, a lovely countertop on big chunky legs, a great place to prep then sit down to eat.

If we successfully stop the waterfall idea, use what are called furniture ends on the sides of the island for a finished look. Essentially, that is a fancy word for attaching false doors or ends that match the traditional doors on the sides of the island. It costs a little more, but not as much as the waterfall. It's one of those finishing elements that you see in more traditional kitchens. Your kitchen designer or cabinet maker will know what it means.

Sleek hard-edged modern houses/condos in places like Miami, Los Angeles, NYC can look great with waterfall counters. More traditional houses with waterfall counters look like they added the latest trendy item to try to look updated and more high end, but they just end up with a confused and mismatched house style. Other remodelers might be following trends blindly, but that doesn't mean you should!

With such a limited amount of cabinets, more storage and less seating would be better. No waterfall. It just looks ridiculous in a traditional house.
