Is this good shower/ tub tile work? Contractor says it’s acceptable

I am having a entire 12x24 addition put on my house which inclues a master bathroom wuth a 3x6 double shower and tub with tile surrounding it. i am starting to get upset bevause I feel i am backed into a corner. some of the tiles that were cut were nice and smooth others are very chipped edges. i am trying to figure out what to do with the contractor but they are starting to become unprofessional with me amd saying the work is acceptable. other things to note some tiles in the border are slanted and nit straught, they did not center the border with the insert it is lower towards tge bottom and then the border around the tub was just pieced and placed terrible together. the right side looks completely different from the left side (how they didnt notice before grouting is beyond me) but yes its all been grouted. this cost me a lot so to me it us unacceptable. they said they could demo abd have their other tile contractor do it but his other work looks comparable so im not given any other options. Truly is this acceptable professional work for over $10,000

Perfectly fine. It isn’t finished yet. Stand back. The waterproofing is good, which is the main thing.

the corner mismatch around the tub would make me NUTS.. one side should be flipped the other day, then the horizontal lines would match.

the shower insert is a train wreck - crooked, the center piece off center, and its not in the middle..

am sorry this is happening to you

Yes, I believe it is. We really like the tub. I was kind of surprised at how long the water stays hot. I've used the tub a few times and I leave the water in to see how long it stays warm, it's been at least an hour since it was filled and it would still be warm enough to be in. We did have them stuff additional insulation around the tub before closing in the walls as I was concerned because our last tub did not retain heat. I also didn't think I liked the style where there is handles down the side as opposed to the more oval tub, but after I've used it, I realized how functional those are - my arms just sit right in them when using the tub, which is very nice, and you can steady yourself as you're getting out without getting water over the edge of the tub. I agree, I think we need a window sill because i can imagine it will get sticky. He said it was a potential mold issue but I don't see how as long as we're running the fan when using the shower/tub.

First, I'd pull one of the stems, take it to a REAL plumbing store and see if they can identity the manufacturer, American Standard, Kohler, whatever. They can probably order replacement handles that will fit your needs. Sounds like your plumber is on the young side. I just got replacements for my 1950's AS. If you wind up replacing the tile (depending on how many you need), you can get 8 full tiles by pulling down the tiles above the shower and just leaving the bullnose trim (that's how mine is and it's original). Patch the drywall and continue the crown molding around the corners to meet the other crown. It looks like pretty standard crown so it should be pretty easy to match. You might also get some extra tile from behind the side panel of the vanity where it meets shower. Just a thought.

I would like to keep the comments on here constructive and courteous. Everyone may have a different opinion regarding colors, placement, etc. and I welcome it. That's makes this world great! I might like pink and someone may not. Neither is wrong, just different. Technical advice is different and more fact based (where is there a 'right' and 'wrong'). I don't appreciate @Anglphilia your rude comment regarding 'lipstick on a pig', etc. If that person likes those colors and layout, that's great for them. They are the ones to live there and enjoy it. There is nothing technically or structurally wrong it.

Not a silly question. When you have water forcefully hitting the inclined side of the tub high enough up, though most of it will splash downwards, some of it goes sideways, and some of it -- counterintuitively -- splashes back upwards from where it strikes the side and you can actually have a small puddle start to form on the floor in this area from water spray bouncing up and escaping this way. It the water doesn't hit the side of the tub, but only the bottom of the tub, it doesn't bounce high enough to do this.

The main problem I see is that he is either using a worn blade or an incorrect blade to cut the tile, and the edges of these cuts are are being chipped unnecessarily.

Did he use spacers when he placed the tiles; the grout lines look awful; some are way too visibly thicker than others. I dont like how he cut the tiles also; not crisp cuts. I would be unhappy too.

Sad to say, but on the scale of bad tile jobs we see here with 1 being worst and 5 being best, this would probably get a 3.

Average work for an average price with a $2500 Schluter upgrade. The money is below the tile, not on top of the tile. Not having the deco band go between the niches, and be the niche backs would be crazy making. But that is a design decision, not an execution decision.

Sorry This is not professional looking. I have some of the same issues and am in the process of trying to get the grout corrected. Is something like that fixable?

Done by someone with very poor tile layout knowledge. Look at the shower niche area, the tiles above and below the stripe are stacked, but the rest are 1/3 offset. Slivers at the end are also a poor choice.

The mosaic stripe around the tub looks like the sheets were not mixed and/or flipped to give the correct pattern.

What did they charge you $10K for? Just the tile installation labor?
