Comments (57)I have thoroughly enjoyed browsing all the photos and reading the stories of your collections here. Such beautiful pieces and wonderful, touching stories. To see most of mine, you'd think my home was full of antiques, which is far from the real deal, but these seem to be most of my most interesting non-art things. However, some of you have given me some ideas for things I could do in the future with things I have stored! This is a small collection of silver vases, albeit in need of some polish right now. My collection of miniature tea sets. This started with my aunt giving me her much-used Mickey Mouse set she had used back in the 30's as a child and a then-new set when I was about 8-years old (the blue and white delft set). The rest is a mix of old and new I picked up along the way as an adult. I also have a lot of old hankies that belonged to my grandmother and great-grandmother, and yes I use them at weddings and funerals. They made some of them, including the tatting on the edges. Gallery hallway of family photos (old and new) To honor our home states (Alabama and Ohio) I started looking for old maps of our states and regions. This is one of Alabama and of the Eastern US in our breakfast room. The next one is an Agricultural map of Ohio. I think I've posted enough. Thanks for viewing. BTW, those clocks are awesome! And I adore that mirror, and I can't say enough about that belly cast!...See MoreArtwork/Prints for my dining room
Comments (59)Patty- it's a self portrait, and I see nyc in it as well :) But yea, he's definitely not every ones cup of tea . To be honest, I hate Romanticism, followed closely by most Realism. That means I don't appreciate many of the greats (blasphemy, I know.) A lot of Basquiats work is about his own culture. It's difficult for many people to get because there's generally nothing typically "beautiful", or even remotely attractive about it- especially if you don't know, or can't relate to the context. I grew up with people that adore his work. I think a lot of it has to do with them being from the same neighborhoods, and cultural backgrounds- they get it....See MoreDining Rm help plz..Wall art, light fixture, curtains, and centerpeice
Comments (35)OK - I thought a little sketch would help. you need about a 12" drop of chain from the top of the ceiling, then a max size fixture of 30" long (top of ring to the chandelier to the bottom crystal or bottom.), then 33" above the table to the bottom of the chandelier. So, max 30" high, 28" max round, and for some chandeliers depending on the design, might be able to go to 30 wide. Chain drop is easiest to deal with from an installation point of view. Hope that explains the sizing....See MoreI'll show you mine, if you'll show me yours...... ART WORK that is!
Comments (70)I tried to post and found all my air-dropped files were in a format that would not post. Will have to find time to redo them. But my art is so different -- some "fine" and a lot of contemporary and folk art. This was the only one that worked and I took it down towait, but in case I don't make it back (I am behind on an 8 week course and trying to get caught up) -- this will be my one contribution. This is titled Angels from Above and was painted in response to the attack on 9/11. It hangs in my LR where I have an Americana folk piece, a new still life that may not have found its permanent home and some other contemporary art. It's an eclectic grouping with the link being rich saturated colors. The sofa is midnight velvet and the chairs are natural linen, both treated as neutrals. The background is an inset above the mantle that was painted for another painting when this was in DR. It isn't terrible with the painting, but were painted the walls and now I want to pick a new color for the inset and different painting....See MoreFlo Mangan
