Need help choosing pendant lights

See photos of our kitchen. The rest of the fixtures in our house are black but the faucets & hardware in the kitchen are champagne bronze color. The back of the island will have a black panel once we finish the renovation. Ceilings are just 8' so the pendants can't be too big. The island is 90"x40"

Well, it sounds like schoolhouse pendant wins!! Definitely in pewter? Is brushed nickel ok? (one manufacturer I'm looking at only offers that.) Faucet is chrome but it's the only chrome thing in the room, so that shouldn't make a difference, right? Would the brush nickel coordinate well enough with the appliances? I'd think so, but I'm no finish expert. EEEEE I'm getting so excited! I ordered all the appliances yesterday, should be in in 10 days! And my contractor just sent me a picture of the island in with the new floor!

Thanks for the suggestions! I will be getting my Vetro B/S sample today (there was a mix up with the supplier.) I really hope I like it because I am really getting kitchen reno fatigue and don't want to keep searching for the right B/S. It's been chaos juggling work, kids and dragging my kids to endless trips to Home Depot, granite, lighting, etc. stores!! Fortunately, we have a much needed vacation next week! The discus pendant is nice, but at 10" in diameter, I think a bit big for my kitchen. Any other ideas? I have no clue what I even like in pendants?? I am considering a brushed nickel b/c of the hardware/SS appliances but also think maybe something glass or crystal would be nice. any other suggestions??? Thanks!!

@Mrs Pete, I'm curious... If I was to do an all white kitchen, wouldn't it still hold true that all the color is at the bottom (the flooring).? How would you balance it out in that case, or would it even need balancing? I decided to go with a two toned kitchen because my kitchen gets very little sunlight (many many mature trees in the neighborhood). With my dark flooring and 90's orange oak, I'm in a sea of wood. I picked white uppers to brighten the room and the stained bottom cabinets for their durability and easier maintenance. (My cabinets are already ordered so I'm not sure I could make that change this late but I'd still like to learn.)

I originally had these pendants installed but didn't like the looks of them once they were up. They were 9" in diameter and hung 32" above the countertop. Please give any suggestions for new ones!

They looked cheap installed, the lights were crooked and that bothered me, although you can't tell very well from the photo 😅 I also wonder if a bronze would look nicer? I couldn't decide and wanted to get some other opinions.

What I don’t like about your original pendants is that the bulbs are exposed due to the clear glass on the bottom. My eyes cannot handle looking at the bulbs, even with the edison style bulbs. Plus the glass will need cleaning far too often. I am glad you removed those.

I think I would explore pendants that have a black and gold combination. i did this mockup by grabbing the first pendant I happened to see after doing an image search for “black and gold pendants”. There are so many styles you can choose from!

Also, please excuse my not to scale mockup. I am just awful at making the pendants look the correct scale to the island!

@rebunky thank you for the reply! I also did not want glass but didn't know if the lights were too imposing and large when it was all black. Your mockup looks nice though and I like the combination of black and gold. When I did a search for that I found these pendants.

They are 10",10", 7" it says.

What are your thoughts?

@mirodemi, thank you for your idea as well! I don't like those pendants as well. I really want a pendant with downrods so I don't have a kinked cord as well.

Here are some lights I like. I think I’d stick to white. With brass/ gold as the ceilings are lower and it will give it more of that open feeling…
I also think the first lights you had were hung too high. Hanging them lower down will give the room the illusion that the ceilings are taller.
