Hi Kristen, first off, you’re very fortunate to have an opening that high. In the past, I have used vertical window shades. They work very well and you can mount them inside of your existing jam.
Also, they do stack almost completely to the sides. Maybe 6 inches is all that’s needed.

How high is that ceiling? I guess the blind idea might work . Have you thought of checking out closet design places they might have doors to fit. The other issue of course is they will need to fit perfectly not like bypass . So you need to make sure the opening is square and the exact measurement of the opening.

The ceiling is 8 feet tall. The closet opening goes all the way from floor to ceiling.

You can get 8 ft tall bifold doors even at big box stores. You may have to order them, but they show that they have them online.

Hmmm, I am seeing max height 80” at Home Depot. Can you share what big box store you saw a height of 96”? Thanks!
