Am I overthinking this?
Comments (21)harring-I like so many different things that I knew I'd need help. I found a lady that works as an ID for a builder but also does some ID on the side. She will help as little or as much as I want - even just to run ideas/color schemes by her. I pay her by the hour (and completely reasonable at $50/hour) and it will be worth every penny...peace of mind. :) nero-if I may ask - what is the name of that light fixture in your bath mood board? Sorry to the OP. Not trying to hijack Lisa...See MoreAm I over-thinking this? WWYD?
Comments (35)Thanks again snookums! I do wish the kitchen were bigger and could support an island. Unfortunately the distance between sink cabs and fridge cabs is only 96''. I could squeeze in a narrow 24'' island - but I think it would be more in the way than useful - particularly since I am stuck with a diagonal traffic pattern crossing from the front entryway to the family room. One CKD I spoke with suggested a small rolling island - which I could always add later if I decide to. The longest distance in the work triangle is 8' from the refrigerator to the sink. Everything else is within the suggested range of 4'-7'. I appreciate you challenging my decisions - it really helps me determine whether I am on the right track or not! I am far from perfect and the more eyes that look at this, the more likely all the kinks will be caught before they get implemented!...See MoreAm I overthinking it or did I mess up? Comments (130)I love the house color with the stone. I do agree that the shutters can go, maybe just “beef” up the trim a little so the windows look finished. The white trim isn’t awful but I would live in the house for a year and then decide..black trim could look nice with the other colors you have. Front door colors are a matter of taste. If you have a lot of green landscaping you may want to pull a shade of that to your door. If you have a particular color landscape, flowering shrubs and plants in a color you love,, you could pick a shade of the flowering plants to put on your door. I built my house a year ago. I have HardyPlank siding in Deep ocean blue, black trim , black standing seam metal roof and a chartreuse front door. I like to use plants (in planters and pots) around the front of the house that pick up the front door color. I get a lot of compliments on the color combinations and especially on the front door color. You are still looking at a building lot. Things will look much different when you have some landscaping, even if it’s just some bushes the builder puts in. Look at landscaping designs on Houzz, in magazines and Pinterest . You will see things much differently after living in you house for awhile. Take your time making decisions, your perfect home will come in time....See MoreGoing in circles on range hood - am I overthinking?
Comments (56)Update - according to my GC all is well-sealed, in fact he has said it will take "significant effort" to pull the blower. A process, I gather, involving a heat gun to soften up all the silicone. Nothing is really wet in the attic, the water just seems to be coming down the actual ventilation duct. I am really surprised this has not been previously recognized as a design flaw for this particular blower going up on the roof!? Surely there's enough rain and snow in communities everywhere that this problem would have been discovered? We discussed the pedestal idea - he can build one up to 12" in height (that is the widest that the wood comes in, beyond that it's more involved) - but this wouldn't be 100% protective as sometimes we get more snow than that, and it was a big snowstorm that led to the recent flooding onto my cooktop and cabinet. He proposes to re-route the thing out through the side wall of the house. I'm inclined to agree, just to get things going before the next spring snow hits......See Morekandrewspa
