Happy day planned for tomorrow! I am seeing one of my sisters for the first time in a few years. Her and her family live out of state and we just cant ever seem to make it work to meet. They have been here for a week but I have been working every night including tonight and they are leaving Tuesday. So, dinner at moms house! YAY! I have not seen her since she was diagnosed with cancer. She has since been through her treatments and I think is just waiting for her reconstructive implant surgery. So I am happy to see her and her family.

I have agreed to cook some things, and she will throw a roast of something in the crockpot at moms house. Of course, I asked her what she would like. She picked chip dip, buffalo chicken dip eggrolls, mac and cheese and dressing. An......interesting combo but I am here to please! Because I have been working everyday I have been picking up the ingredients I will need here and there on my way to work and bringing them home in the morning. I am going to cook everything when i wake up tomorrow afternoon before I head to moms. I had planned to make JUST enough, because my parents are very resistant to having many leftovers. I also bought some foil pans in sort of a medium size to transport and cook the food in so they do not have to worry about dishes. Well, tonight,as I am settling in at work, I get a text from said sister:

Her: Hey are you still coming to moms tomorrow for dinner?

Me: Yes! With food!

Her: Yay! BTW, mom did not think it was important but I think you should know that (other sister) and her fam and (one of our brothers) and his fam will be there too!

Me: Ok, yeah, that is important for me to know! I was only going to make 1 batch of dip!

Her: That's why I told you! That would have been AWFUL! Are you gonna send me a grocery list?

Me: No, I will be making all the food at home and bringing it

Her: Ok! SOOOOO Excited!

Me: Me Too!

So it did not surprise me that my mom did not think it important to tell me that THIRTEEN extra people were going to be there for dinner. She has always been weird about entertaining and seems to think 20 people should happily be able to split a peanut butter sandwich and be completely stuffed and happy. We all stopped trying to understand it years ago and have just had to steamroll her and plan everything ourselves. The menu, shop, cook, cleanup, distribution of leftovers. I think she thinks of food as a distraction or something. I dont know. But anyway, I am a TINY bit annoyed that all my well executed plans were foiled after all. I will need to make another trip to the store for more food and bigger foil pans to accommodate enough food for a dozen extra people.

But in the end I am happy to do it. And I am still excited to hang out with her and her hubby and kids, even if just for a few hours.
