Pruning ficus b. after July 9 Repotting. Pic Heavy!
Comments (7)Randy I have very similar tree, even lopsided like yours. The tree was getting too tall to keep inside, but luckily was not infested. I was looking for info how to prune it & that is how I found this forum. I have followed Al's recommendations to a letter (and I have never even read about root pruning/proper repotting): 1. 'inspection' of roots/flushing thoroughly/proper watering & fertilizing - all few months ahead of proper repotting; 2. then at proper time (July), root pruning (the root ball was a mess)-repotting into brand new soil mix (5-1-1); 3. continue proper watering/fertilizing as recommended 4. pruning branches approx. month later I am very satisfied with results, the tree looks much better and has lots of new leaves growing. An it is few inches shorter (more pruning next year). It took some effort, but if you really want your plant to grow well, it is worth it. I am following similar routine with all my potted plants - it will take some time since I have 'few', but by same time next year all of them will be in new soil mix, root pruned/repotted/branches pruned and I am sure growing much healtier. The info you'll find on this forum is very helpful. Al has many extremely informative threads, and I have save them for reference. Much easier for me to get infor-he does all the hard work of writing it all... Many other members have very good posts and photos too - sorry I can't think of all the names right now. Good luck with your tree. Rina...See MoreSome July 17 blooms
Comments (12)Thanks everybody! Yep, fly is on the second from the right flower on the upper left sepal. Too much attention to that nasty thing ;) Chris, sorry to hear Choral Fantasy didn't last there. It was a bonus plant. Julia, thanks for your suggestion, several people suggested Firefox too. I should read about it. Mantis, about Russian Temple: this is the second good opening on it, not quite perfect but will do for me. And I think there are only a couple buds left. Bud count is low.. It was one of the plants from my disastrous 2012 fall order where all but two died. I thought this one died too, there was nothing after the winter, but then one little tiny shoot emerged and this year it grew into a medium size fan. And sent a scape. I bet there were less than 10 buds on it, I didn't count. And I'm pretty sure budcount will remain low. In spite of that I will keep it. I saw a pic from a northern garden several years ago and fell in love. Re clean bloom - I noticed this year there is very little splotchiness, even on the ones that usually have spots every year. Knock on wood....See MorePhotos of Daylilies on July 5th
Comments (16)Oh Nancy I feel for you. The deer did a number on our beds until I put up the electric fence. As for PINK STRIPES. I have a few hundred crosses that will (cross your fingers) bloom for the 1st time next year. This includes maybe 30 plants of PINK STRIPES X DASH IT (Ellie's daylily). Can't wait. The submissions are rolling in. Thanks to all of you. If you still need to send in your submissions, please use the following: 1. Limit your submission to TWO pictures. 2. The submission should be as attachments in an email to this email address daylilyroundrobin@yahoo.com 3. Submissions should be high resolutin JPG images (size up to 2 megs) 3. Rename each submission as follows: State City Your Name Cultivar An example of renaming the image would be something like... I live in Albany Ohio so I would change the name from HP1293.jpg to OHAlbanyCharlesDorseyTwoPartHarmony.jpg If it is renamed in this order (State City Your Name Cultivar), it will be much easier for me to sort them. The video will most likely not be edited until August. I'll let you all know where you can view it. Thanks again, Charlie...See MoreUPDATE: Petal Pushers July White Elephant Swap #5
