Ants all over my new rose!
Comments (15)Would that keep the ants out of the roses? Wouldn't they just get in anyways? I thought about raising it off the ground before I planted the rose, but thought better of it, because the rose is going to stay outdoors all year long. I can't lift to bring into a shed. I thought that having contact with the ground may help with overwintering a little bit (not much but a little lol) and wrapping and stuffing full of oak leaves. If it dies (hope not) I've got two backups that ARE going in the shed....See MoreAll the leaves have fallen off my rose bush from black spot,
Comments (3)I'm not sure what your picture is supposed to be showing that pertains to BS and missing leaves. What I see is a beautiful rose with many leaves, including new leaves, and lots of gorgeous blooms. So what is the problem? If you are asking what to do about BS, get some Bayer Garden Disease Control for Roses, Flowers, and Shrubs (get that name--NOT one of the other Bayer products)--at Lowes or online. Buy a small sprayer container for about $20 -- I got mine at Home Depot but other similar stores probably also carry them. Follow Bayer's directions carefully, but make sure you watered the roses deep and well the day before, and pick an early morning time for spraying, before the breeze picks up and swats you in the face with fungicide. Spray with that once or twice at 10 day interval, and probably you will have killed the BS. And with really hot weather coming, you may not have any more BS attacks until cooler weather in the Fall becomes more conducive the BS. But based on your pic, I'd say keep on watering your rose and enjoy it! Kate...See MoreIf you had room for only one rose bush, what would it be and why?
Comments (35)I think I would pick COQUETTE DES BLANCHES because it has not gone one day this season without blooms - most days it is loaded with them. Even blooms steadily in 100 degree heat. It is the most delicate pink, with a green button-eye, varies from perfect quartered and swirled cups to camelllia shaped blooms. The fragrance could be stronger, but is lovely in quality, and the spent blooms have a strong, spicy fragrance that makes deadheading a joy. Also - good vigor, pea-green foliage outlined in red, and clean, clean, clean all season. Wish I could post a pic, but am still tech challenged. If we don't count minis, I'll pick one of those too. The old mini BABY DARLING from Ralph Moore has many of the same qualities to recommend it. Reliable, healthy, blooms without pause. Delicate apricot blooms of a camellia or water lily shape, and a strong and piercing lilac fragrance. On bad days I have considered redoing my garden with only these two roses en masse (oh, and maybe HOT COCOA...)....See MoreWhy did my rose bush just dropped all its leaves?
Comments (0)A rose drops off all its leaves for two reason. One is to conserve water for the roots when it is too dry and the other is because of stress such as newly planted. Roses have three leaf buds and can produce three sets of leaves. When they get enough water or get stablized in their new home, they will then put out new leaves and start to grow again....See MoreKristine LeGault 8a pnw
