Perhaps he could be Papa with his first initial like Papa j or something like that. Good luck it's nice if he likes what he's going to hear for a long long time.

You have a year to figure out the names. Sometimes the child will make something up. Or you can go with something out there, like Awesome, Progenitor, Paterfamilias, Patriarch, OldGoat, Santa, BigDaddy (a Southern USA version of grand-pa in literal translation), Abuelito (little/loved grandfater in Spanish), Zeide (Yiddish), Dido (Ukrainian), Boss, Sire, etc., but I like Awesome. Hey, Janey, have you met my Awesome? :D

My grandson had 3 grandmas so I always joked (kind of) that I was going to teach him my name was Favorite Grandma Oly!

We’re leaning towards the Japanese ”Oji” (without the usual ”san” or ”chan” honorific) as it’s similar to his nickname- he doesn’t want anything easily recognisable as ”Grandfather”

You certainly don't have to answer because it's none of our business, but I am so curious why he doesn't want grandpa or anything recognizable., I'm also kind of chuckling to myself, absolutely confident that he's going to melt into a puddle whenever that little guy calls him anything, "Grandpa" or otherwise!.

Before I was a grandma and people would talk about the experience of being a grandparent, I would hear it as wah wah wah wah (like in the cartoons about what dogs hear). Then I became a grandparent and I then understood. Now I want to talk about him ALL the time and I totally don't care whether people want to hear or not! You can try to describe the experience, but it's impossible. No one understands until it happens to you! Enjoy every moment!

I was 19 when my son was born - he was 19 when his son was born so I was a Grandma at 38.

DH gets very peeved when anyone calls him Grandpa. I guess it’s a family thing, his father didn’t want to be a ”Grandpa” either so he was always just ”Tom” to DD.

Exactly, how about just using his name?

We weren't expecting any grandkids. Younger daughter had several miscarriages with her first hubby, Older daughter is gay.

Daughter and her wife tried IVF, only to miscarry.

We had recently received an inheritance, which we weren't spending, and decided to gift each family with a healthy sum.

This allowed the older daughter and her wife to do another round of IVF, and a year later the younger daughter and her hubby adopted 3 embryos.

This resulted in twins for the older and a beautiful girl for the younger!

We've been blessed with 3 grandkids! B/G twins and a little girl!

Oh, BTW, they were all about 40 when this all happened!

I had my kids at 41 and 45, both pregnancies without intervention, so…yes. It definitely can happen!

Congratulations! As an aside, my neighbor’s children call their father by his first name (yes, he’s their actual birth father), so calling the grandfather by his first name or whatever he goes by would work.

My older sister liked to call our dad ”himself” in recognition of his Irish ancestry. it pleased him, very definitely.

I had a work colleague whose name was Frank and he hated it so went by the initial of his last name, "G." I worked, so might work for grandpa.

I have another friend whose mom went by "Gee Gee" because she was none to happy about being a great grandmother at her young age, she was till working! That's not to say she wasn't happy about being a great grandmother, she was happy about that. Just not ready for the great grandma title.

I personally like "The Boss!" I never had a living grandfather so didn't have this issue. No kids for us, but my Dad goes by "Zayda" to our dog Josie. "Patriarch" sounds cool . . .

My maternal grandparents were the traditional Grandma and Grandpa. My paternal grandparents were Nana and Poppa. Our kids called my husband's parents Grandma and Poppa Roro - which was their version of Grandma and Poppa Ontario as they lived in Ontario.

Congratulations, Colleen. Having grandkids is way better than having kids, there's more time to play in the kitchen, which I have no doubt you will do.

I was 33 when Ashley was born, and didn't think I was all THAT old, LOL. When Makayla was born I just didn't want to be called "Granny Annie", so what do they call me? Grandma Annie, of course. In our family there are more descriptions than titles. Mother was "Little Grandma", my Grandmother was "The Old Grandma", my stepdad was "PaPa Honey" because Mother always called him Honey. Dad was "The Farmer" and my stepmother was just "Shirley" and Elery is "PaPaw Elery". Me? When I'm not Grandma Annie I am "The Empress of The Universe". Or, in Makayla's case, "Yaasss, Queen". (grin) Every Princess needs a Queen, you know.

I like "The Boss". At least that way someone lets him think he is! Enjoy those baby snuggles, he'll be jumping off your lap and running before you can blink.

Congratulations.....being grandma is the best!! My first grand child called me "granma Dee-dah" but that left for just grandma. Nothing to be ashamed of being grandma it's a delightful achievement.

Up until I was 16 I had 4 grandmas, two grandmas and 2 greats and one grandpa and a step grandpa for a short time. They were Big Grandma, Little Grandma, Grandma Kissel, Grandma Mollie and just Grandpa....or sometimes Grandpa Harry and the step grand pa before he bowed out, Grandpa Dad.

My daughter and her husband are Grandma and Grandpa....my son and his wife are Bubs and Pop....

Whatever....the child will call you what they will. and that's the best part!

CONGRATULATIONS! My grands call their paternal grandfather ”Chief.” They called my husband by his usual nickname with an -ie on the end. They call their biological maternal grandfather by his first name.

And my mom was the same way when my son, her first grandchild, was born when she was 52. She always hated the idea of seeming old, so she became 'Nana'. My dad's father was Poppa to us, and he passed before my son could talk, so my dad became son's 'Poppa'.

They will decide for themselves for the most part. My BIL was PeePaw and my sister was DUH! They finally settled on MeeMaw.

One of my co-grandmothers is ”Moo-yah” to grandies from a different branch of the family 😂🤷‍♀️

My DH is "Papa". We like it so well that everyone calls him that now.
