Front Door? Single or Double door?
Comments (24)I like the 8 foot doors in double doors better than a single with sidelights unless the single is quite wide as per millworkman's suggestion (very tall narrow doors can look off). Our ceilings in the entry are 12 feet so I am glad we replaced that 6 foot 8 inch door in our house prior to our addition with this taller one. The 8 foot doors looks so much better with tall ceilings. We have a fiberglass door that looks like wood. It was quite thermal, so not sure all double doors are created equal in terms of energy rating (we are in Canada and the door is north facing so we paid attention to energy ratings). Here is our door in our house under construction. I love the glass as it lets in nice light. Carol...See MoreDouble/single, wood/fiberglass front door?
Comments (2)Hi aam31, We did both. Most of the door is fiberglass, but all the trim is mahogany. Our door is recessed, sheltered and north facing so I don't worry about the real wood component. I found the combination really fooled the eye that the whole door was wood more than the fiberglass door, with fiberglass trim. Here is a picture. The transom at this point has paper blind on it for privacy, but the blind will be removed when we are done building. Best of luck. Comments (5)Yes but what size is your overall unit? A double front door really needs to be a 6' wide opening as you should have the main leaf be 36" minimum. Now the opening could be made larger potentially but then you will end up needing to reframe the door opening which may or may not be possible with the limited info you have offered....See MoreEntry door - single or double, no porch
Comments (11)Have you looked at the style of your home?????? No Craftsman door on this house. Additionally, the lines of the door are to line up with the lines on the arch above. Also, I would paint all the trim around the windows to match the windows white after the roof gets cleaned./ If you want to get two doors then they should match the other French doors. You'll need an arched canopy to protect your entry from the elements. Something minimal should be considered....See MoreToronto Veterinarian
