Picture size over buffet

Trying to decide if this picture that I purchased today fits well over buffet. Also I was thinking of something more muted but unfortunately unable to find. The colors in picture seem to blend in well with the rug but not sure if it compliments the buffet. Didn’t want to hang pic until I’ve made a decision. I will be getting some type of buffet lamps or wall sconces. Advice welcomed. Thanks.

I love the size, but suggest you find an art piece that you absolutely love and will enjoy seeing in that space daily. Buying art on the basis of how it matches the furniture tends to feel uninspired and generic. Never be afraid to express yourself with the art you choose for your home.

It seems too large in that area. Have you tried it on the wall where the plates are. They look lost on such a large wall.

Squirrel has made excellent points as usual. Also, by hanging it a bit closer to the cabinetry, and leaving a bit more space above it, so that it is NOT centered vertically, you will make the ceilings feel taller. The width of that pix seems great, and a couple of lamps on either side could finish the look. Before you decide that, tho, what other lighting will be near the buffet - do you have recessed lighting there? The reason I ask is that if you put a buffet light on either side, the center of the painting will likely not be adequately lit in the evening. You might want to do a large picture light if you don't have directional recessed lighting, and then use candelabra instead of buffet lamps on either end. Or, you could be daring and hang the art more to one side, and then use a much larger lamp to sit in the empty space. Might be a more interesting look, depending on how traditional or modern your space is, and what if any lighting that is already there.

Lightly .. OMG!! I've tried everything to get that tape off. I can't believe they put it on there like that. It is very VERY dried on there. The tape is so dried even little bits won't come off. I have tried repeated soakings, vinegar etc. dish soap. I'm going to go get some Goo Gone. Can I get goo gone at walmart you think? Teacats.. thanks! Whew.. I am relieved it looks good. Yes I am going with a pair of tall thin buffet lamps on either side. I have a bunch saved on my list LOL.. The buffet lamps will be another post muhaha Okay you guys have me feel great now. the height seems okay?

Absolutely vertical. I’ve had a mirror in every DR I’ve ever had, as did my mother. They are traditional over a sideboard or buffet. No one has ever spent the meal looking in the mirror. It should fleck tge room - wallpaper or pain, curtains opposite, the table with its lovely china/crystal/silver/candlesticks. It could not be more classic.

Laughing here because sometimes I swear that the “lack of design eye” gene is carried on the Y chromosome!! My husband would have agreed with yours..... NO....moving the painting far to the right would be awful...it would look like so ething was “off”. Center the painting on the buffet, and don’t worry about the lamp. It will look just fine! I have a similar situation over my little bar chest...trust me

I can move the plates to a smaller wall but then I’m tasked with finding something to go over buffet😱!

I agree with @Ida Claire, the piece is the perfect size for the buffet. Art brings a ton of personality to a space. If you are unsure of the colors then I suggest moving on until you find the perfect piece. A piece that size will dominate and you don't want something with that much influence unless you are completely satisfied with it.

Size is good, and the picture subject is fine - but it's all so bland as a focal point.

You may be better off with a big mirror in the spot

I might be tempted to put that art on the plate shelf wall and find something else to put over the buffet

As an aside - I think your chandelier maybe is a hung a tad too high over the table

I’m having the same thoughts and had considered a mirror but I have a mirror in the foyer and they would be facing each other. I may do a smaller grouping of pictures or an arrangement of plates etc. I am moving the smaller shelf to another location for artwork. Work in progress!!’
