Window/Siding replacement curb appeal help

R A

We are replacing all the windows and siding on our house and are looking to improve the curb appeal. We have a preliminary idea of what we'd like to do but before committing..we were hoping someone could offer their two cents, or spot any errors in our design judgment.

Currently, we are thinking about going with vinyl casement replacement windows, the same size as the existing but adding grids/tines. Instead of a bow, we'd do a bump out window, trimmed in white. For siding a mid-gray tone, wider lap (4") vinyl siding with white trim (the contractor recommended PVC-coated aluminum because we are doing replacement windows though PVC board was our first choice). We were thinking of adding the same color shakes above the windows over the garage, but are now beginning to worry that it might look a bit funny (wide triangle). Not sure about the corner trim, white or the same as the lap?

We love "farmhouse" style but we didn't know how to make it work with this style of ranch.

Could the exposed concrete foundation be covered up with stone or would that clash with the brick and paver hardscape?

Quality...we are cost conscious so we plan on using vinyl products...however, we've heard Marvin Infinity fiberglass windows and Hardie board are excellent products. Are they worth the extra investment?

Thanks!!!
