Finally got some rain and some early blooms!

We got an inch of rain overnight!!! Everything looks happier today, happier than when I watered. Hurray! the hoses and sprinklers get a rest.

First blooms on Coyote Moon today. It actually had four. It has alot of scapes and buds, will have a good show. The scapes are a bit shorter than usual.

This is the second bloom for Tyger River. It wont have a big show this season.

Today is the second bloom day for Quasar Cutie. It will have a good season, several scapes and more buds by far than its first two seasons, it is leaping! The scapes are a bit shorter but above the foliage.

The first bloom on Christine Dixon could be better. It wont be showing off this season but could use a better spot I dont have now.

Happy Happy wont be showing off either. Only one scape, need a better photo.

A wild photo of Before. It always has a few blooms that look like this…..I like the quirky look.

I , too, like the look of Before. Quasar Cutie is pretty an so is Coyote Moon.

I always liked Coyote Moon. I lost it to voles years ago and did not replace it but I liked the compact look of it. You do have many buds! Quasar Cutie looks good.

Our rain started at about 3-4 AM on Monday and ended at about 8 AM. We got about 3/4 ". No damage but the plants did perk up from the soaking. I did a lot of digging yesterday to remove some huge thorny bushes at the corner by the stop sign. I thought " great all that rain will loosen the roots..."..ha. Took me 2 hrs with a mattock/shovel/loppers. Finally got all 3 out. The soil was dry dry just below the surface. So as Tom says it runs off. They are pruning the 150yr old oak in our front yard soon. It dropped a limb a week ago that weighed over 300 #....right where I was working yesterday. I can't plant the corner till I see how much sun I will have when they get done and also they make a HUGE mess when they cut limbs. Tom , I hope all recovers well from the big storm and that you have no lasting damage. c

They say it was raining so hard it created some kind of insulation for us. It was the worst lightening storm I'd ever seen and pouring incredibly hard. Honestly, we felt nothing! Just heard the huge BOOM and then noticed that the car was dead and all the lights on the dash were flashing. Pulled over to the side before we lost momentum and hoped no one behind us would hit us, it was raining so hard. Silly drivers didn't even slow down, not even when tow truck driver arrived!

I don't know for sure yet if it's CMV or TMV, etc. But the brand new leaves on the recently arrived grafts from Adenium Center look to be infected. Only two of the four have leafed out so far, the other two are just starting to do so now. I'm going to get them tested this week after I speak with my local ag office. Obviously if they test positive I'll have to destroy the plants but I may send scions to attempt micropropagation by meristem tissue culture. Which has a high rate of being virus free but isn't a guarantee and could be costly. At any rate, I am disappointed and started a thread elsewhere about it with photos of the leaves. You can't pass a USDA inspection and licensing with plants showing virus and they could destroy ALL of my stock, everything, if I don't deal with it early. I wouldn't want to pass on plants I had grafted if they are infected anyway. If they are infected and the test results throw a positive, I'll destroy the plants and contact Adenium Center about a refund (including my shipping, shame on them!) but I understand a lot of Asian growers don't care about virus. It's a serious issue however that causes more than /$30 billion dollars/ in agricultural crop damage alone every year. Virus in my plants could easily spread in my area to infect crops or natives.

Kate, Coyote moon will always be in my garden, it is such a performer! The blooms are small but there are so many…..compensates for the size.

I'm so happy you finally got a good amount of rain! Coyote Moon looks like it has loads of buds. Quasar Cutie has pretty colors, and I like the shape of Before.

I am glad you got a decent rain. Don't the flower look wonderful after a good rain? Quasar Cutie is indeed and cutie. I like the wonky form on Before too.

Kate, thanks for asking I’m doing well, working on increasing my stamina. Had a problem with anemia last month….looks like the result of taking low dose aspirin for years. I got a transfusion but feeling soooo much better. we worked for several hours in the backyard today……I needed a few extra rest periods ; ).

Coyote Moon sure has a of buds on it. Looks like it will be a show stopper. . I like the quirky Before. I saw your post on your health. Hope things improve for you. Glad you got the rain. Here I am beginning to wonder if I should have done so many wishes for rain. It just keeps on coming here.

Wow, look at the buds on Coyote Moon. And it's my favorite color - yellow. That will be awesome when it gets going even more...........Speaking of yellow, Christine Dixon made me pause. Don't know about the color combination yet, but I think I like it. Hope to see more of it...............Maryl
