For me, not really, tacky is tacky regardless of price. But, tacky is also in the eye of the beholder. We all have our own ideas about what is and is not tacky.

Now, on the other hand, that lamp is one of the cutest things I've seen in a very long time. I just love it!

I love it. My family would smile knowingly and then disown me. (But to answer your question, no, I generally think tacky is tacky, regardless of price, but sometimes I like tacky.)

I don't think I would want something more just because I saw a high price tag elsewhere. If I don't like it, I don't like it.

I will say I like the hanging version of that fixture better than the table lamp. It looks more like a bird cage while the lamp looks more like yard junk. I like one, but not the other. If it had been available, I'd have gotten it to remake it as a hanging lamp. But it wouldn't be hard to make that from scratch either. Or use an actual or decorative bird cage -- and use LED lights so you don't bake the birds.

About fourteen years ago i bought that from a french seller and imported it… for DD2s room..,then i saw it at ABC carpet in NYC. about 5 yrs ago i gave it to a nephew for his DDs nursery. Obviously im a big fan,

I may not care about if it is expensive, but as a general rule if Mtn buys something, I'm likely to want one.

I'd love to have that lamp! I wouldn't care who thought it's tacky, everyone needs a bit of quirkiness in their home. Tacky is in the eye of the beholder.

Oh my gosh, I look at our Marketplace all the time and never knew there was a "free stuff" section. Someone is giving away an old upright piano...in my town!

I replied earlier from my phone. As I said, ours was a chandy. Also, could someone have added birds to this one? I do not recall any birds on the outside of the cage and I think it had less birds over all.

It is funny, just the other day my cleaning lady was saying she wishes we still had the bird chandy (and she had to dust it!). She is right, it would look great with the way we have the room now (the twin bedded room w the big window). I took it down when my DD ditched the twins for a PB bed that looked like a sofa so she could play "studio apartment."

I understand things better when I see the price, sometimes.

I tend to use the word "tacky" for more expensive items that I don't like. For cheap or free stuff, if I don't like it, it's just junk.

Never for your grand daughter it would always be adorable for a kids' room. For me place influences. I find things look elevated when you take them out of the yard sale and put them among my own things.

For something I have no context for, yes. However, I am always looking for the emperor's new clothes.

They don't become less tacky for me, but cause to me to shake my head even more!

Actually, if items are pricey and I dislike them already, they become even more tacky and I'm reminded of an old saying about a fool parting with money. Some of the absurd "designer" clothing items that have been shared here in astonishment would definitely fall into that category.

That one has way too many birds on it for me. DD2 had a larger version in DGS nursery. He will be 12yo this summer. She hasn't used it since he was 5yo, but kept. The downside is you either hang from the wall on a bracket or have someone hardwire (comes with plug). She used in a corner over a small corner bookcase. With a small bulb, it gave a nice soft glow to his room.

The one you posted is way overpriced. I don't recall what she paid for hers, but it was much much less. Would I want a table lamp or hanging fixture like this? No, and DD2 must not either since she hasn't used it again. LOL

To answer your question, things do not become less tacky to me when I see the price.

I'm with Ida Claire on this one. Tacky is tacky to me, but tacky is in the "eyes of the beholder".

In my eyes, the tackiness level would not be changed by finding out price, but the idea of reselling might enter into the decision whether or not to acquire.

I think it is good for a child's room - some of the colors are a bit too garish for use in other rooms, except perhaps a porch or sunroom. I find nothing about it to be tacky.

I think it is cute, but I do not want it - I have no place to put it. I would like it better if some of the colors were toned down a bit - especially the magenta ostrich feather tail. I like all the birds that look like real birds. One looks very much like some finches that I used to have in my aviary in Venice.

Based on owning one and seeing them for sale at ABC, either this is a knock off or they added the birds that are "outside" the cage. Those are also the most garish. I say snip their lil' talons.

I just think about having to dust it. Ha!
