You can find a huge selection online of long, narrow dough bowls. Their rustic look might tie in nicely with your beams and mantel. They can be filled with anything that appeals…fruit, candles, seasonal items, etc. Looks like you could go with a couple of them on your long table.

You love the chandelier, but also acknowledge it isn't working with the size table. Instead of a centerpiece, try adding a rug that is 3' wider and longer than the table. I think (hope) a properly sized rug will help balance it all by defining the table/chairs position.

This idea, but, as you can see the rug is too small. Chairs should pull back from the table and stay on the rug. 3' is a good add on.

I should add that our style is more minimalist leaning, I prefer fewer bolder decor items rather than lots of smaller pieces. Not looking to add rug as it's the table we use every day and we have kids.

I’d go simple and sculptural. Not necessarily any of these, but just examples of the style I mean. If you can visit an art festival, local galleries, etc, that’d be great for something unique and personal.

THanks Jilly, you definitely have your head around the style. I like all these pices you suggested, however, still struggling with the light situation. IF I have two things on the table, one is more or less under the light and one not. I feel like something under the light is just wrong looking?

Would you consider artwork on the walls between the windows instead of adding stuff to the table. Treat the space as a whole instead of just the table.

For me, extra stuff on a table is clutter. But that's just me.

A table used every day and with children doesn't really need a centerpiece. I'd put some art on the wall

I know you love the chandelier, but it is an average chandelier in a very unique and interesting room. Don't buy "things", save the money to find an equally unique chandelier to match the architecture in the room.

I would also say, don’t fret about centerpieces for a hard- working table. I like the dough bowls in theory, but putting stuff in them is just dust- collectors, and the fruit stuff is misleading, it’s usually not best way to store most fruits.

I use a metallic tray with a Sanseveria plant ( in a pot inside a white cache pot— several layers to protect table. I have a lot of wood in DR and enjoy seeing a bit of living green, and the white ceramic, and it gets indirect light. I use that type of plant because it likes to be mostly dry & is upright. But I put it on the sideboard if using whole table.

One idea is to have 2 handcrafted lazy susans, one on either side of light. You could put spices, napkins, fresh flowers, candles, or nothing at all until needed. These were found on Etsy in concrete, agate stone, & wood:
