Cafe Slide In Range Question

Anyone who has a Cafe slide in range - what is the depth of your countertops? Does the range protrude out really far. Love the look of these but am nervous about the depth of the range with handles!

Here is ours from last house. I don't think it protrudes a lot. Counters are standard depth.

The GE Cafe range is free standing, but the controls are on the front, w/ no back splash, so it really is a hybrid. Basically, just doesn't have the side strips to cover the counter top edges. Really a nice looking unit. May go that way myself.

Donna I had the same issue with the range being higher than the countertop. The countertop is exactly at the proper height of 36" but the lowest you can adjust the range down to is 36-3/16. My bet is this is a carry over from the older GE frame design where the slide in range top slightly overlapped the countertop. The minimum range height was designed so you could not go any lower and put strain on the range top. The best solution I have found is to use the optional GE stainless steel trim kit. I posted a pic of it in this thread back on Aug 5 , 2018. It's getting close to 2 years since I installed mine and still loving it.

Lisay, I love my range. It’s probably ten years old now, but was a great purchase! There is about 3/4” of Countertop behind the range. Probably due to the connections. I loved that it didn’t have a high back of a free-standing range, where all the knobs are. I think those are kind of clunky. Good luck!

I would get the Cafe so as to avoid the maligned AquaLift. Also, the Cafe will give you knob-based control for each hob, whereas the KA / JA require two presses - one to first select the hob, then another to adjust the power level. Honorable mention to the GE Profile slide in induction range as well (same basic range as the Cafe but different look and controls). Just upgraded my mom to this one and she's loving it. I had a GE Profile induction range 2013-2019 (I moved away) and it was great. My oven was slow to preheat, but my mom says that her new one is quite fast, so it seems that GE addressed the issue. Ours sticks out because our design/build firm didn’t account for our thicker slab backsplash. At first I was really upset. We ended up putting custom stainless pieces on either side to cover the black sides that were showing. It still sticks out but doesn’t bother me as much. But the Cafe does seem to be deeper than other brands so it’s something to be aware of.
