IMO wall color is the last choice you make when doing a kitchen I am not a beige lover so Alabster is rarely a color I choose. Yes you can apint the cabinets that color and as long as all your colors are more warm thatn cool it will work . I like cabinets paintd white then no matter what wall color I might choose down the road it will work. The Alabaster will look different on the cabinets than on the walls because you will use a different sheen . Having cabinets painted is a huge expense so always my first question is do you love everything about your kitchen except the cabinet color ?

Having the whites match can work great ... but would depend on your floors, counters and other fixed elements in the room. Not enough information to answer the question for your kitchen.

Many times the easiest way to pick wall color is to match the millwork if you’re looking for a white, off white or cream. It reduces the chance of getting a hue that clashes. It does eliminate the opportunity to have some contrast, however. If you like a monochromatic look, then I think it’s fine. Make sure you’re bringing in texture to the look doesn’t fall flat. Alabaster is a very popular off-white/cream that works in many situations. No one can really advise you on the paint color without seeing your fixed elements, however.

Two things: black will really stick out against white cabinets and you will need to make sure alabaster works with your countertop if you’re keeping it. Get a paint chip and put it next to the countertop. You may want to go with a color if you’re keeping appliances. Green is very popular right now and one of those natural colors that almost always looks good.

In general there is nothing the matter with having a monochromatic look with wall color and cabinet/trim color the same.

My walls and cabinets are both alabaster and it looks great.

A second to Susie’s comment to be aware of how the counter and colour choice work together. Many an anguished cry for help has entered Houzz when the combination hasn’t quite worked as envisioned. Is the island in its finished form? The kitchen looks sharp now with the wood, but then I’m a fan of wood. If the island is unfinished, it could be the lower alabaster element in the kitchen - leaving the wood untouched.

Here is an alternate option to painting the cabinets. Briwax to darken the finish.

You could paint the cabinets Alabaster at 75% for a lighter look that won't clash with your walls. You have a lovely kitchen!

I would leave the cabinets, they look to be in good condition, and are very nice. Paint the island the alabaster. Wood cabinets are right back in style, and they are much easier to keep looking nice.

Beverly has a good idea with the Briwax. The mid brown or dark brown would look great. I also think your cabinets look very nice as-is and work with your existing countertops. They don't look oak to me, but maybe maple? The grain is not that evident.

I had dinner at my mom's place the other night and she has oak cabinets. I have always liked them, but they aren't the honey oak, they are a nice medium brown that seems very neutral. Wood cabinets are popular again. The off-white would definitely brighten your space, but it's a lot of work to get it right. Your black appliances would not look as good with Alabaster as with a darker cabinet.

If it were my kitchen, I would leave the perimeter cabinets alone and paint your island a dark gray-blue-green that is a near complement to your cabinet color. Paint the whole island one color, even the wood corners. Save your money for a full remodel.

Tight budget, and a baby? i would paint the island and be done. Your kitchen is already very nice.

Try and imagine the after being the same white (instead of this pale blue/green) and you'll get an idea of what you're asking.

If you just look at the pic on the right and see the cabs against the white ceiling, it should give you an idea of what white walls would look like

Here's alabaster compared to Simply White or cloud white (forget white dove. too dingy) the other two are neutrals that lean a little toward warm. Alabaster can look pretty 'yellowish'.

If you have any plants on changing countertops, i'd wait on paint color.

Look into Pre-fab countertops. for you kitchen you could do the counters for about 1500-1800 using a prefab. they come in quartz, marble, granite, etc.

prefabs come looking like this, usually in 6' or 9' lengths. cost is usually 500-600 bucks. you hire a fabricator to come on site to cut them to your kitchen size

don't know where you live. Some states these are very easy to obtain, others not so much.

That island looks................makeshift. I would select an island in black and replace it with something more like this but in the right size.

Not sure they want open shelves - looks like they have a baby. Probably need doors/drawers with childproofing for the next few years anyway.

Just piling on with the others who say your cabinets are lovely and I would leave them ask they are. Don't mess up a good thing just because you think a change would be nice. Paint your island. Put some cute mats on the floor or a floral runner. Spend your money on something for yourself!

Thansk everyone for the feedback! the island is ”makeshift”. haha We had a u-shaped kitchen and my husband used the cabinets he took out to turn it into an island. the island is not finished of course..we still need to figure out a color to paint it. we will paint the whole thing including wood sides. Still planning on painting though I think because I have lived with this for a while and personally do not care for the wood color of cabinets. Also think we have too many wood colors going on. Thinking I can always paint kitchen walls a nice greige if I find it is too much white for my liking. We will update our appliances to stainless steel too. My husband is almost done making matching walnut floating shelves for above espresso machine. he made the butcher block countertop for island.

the Briwax does not work if the wood has a clear coat over it. it must be applied to raw wood. And once it's waxed, you can't put any type of clear coat over it (without stripping the wax off first) Personally I would never apply wax in a kitchen. for one thing, if it gets hot in there, it could get very gummy. wax attracts grease, grime and dirt. it also has to be buffed and reapplied periodically. (think of waxing your car)

There's a reason why finishers don't use wax.

I mean, if all that's needed is a darker shade, apply a toner or a gel stain. but again, if there is already a clear coat sitting on that wood, it's not going to work. most finished cabinets have a clear coat. And even if you went the gel stain route, you'd still have to apply a clear coat over it to protect it. Ton of work.
