Blinds.com is a great mail order option. easy installation.

I would do both blinds and drapery panels (grommet or rings on a rod.) for a professional, quality look.

You do an inside mount, blackout shade. Hunter Douglas will get you cordless cell shade ivory on the inside AND OUTSIDE..... the black out is in the middle of both colors so no graying effect. Google a H.D source in Salem .

You can add black out lined curtain out panels in a double width on the sides ONLY.... and you will need the source in Salem for that as well. Two rods, a center support.... etc. But ONLY as a decorative add . Otherwise? Expect a bloody fortune in fabric/lining and a lousy install from a handy man. Salem WILL come, and it is not "a small job"

Plan as well, to take care of the wall paint/paper N.O.W or soon as it will all have to come down and go back up if you do not. In the meantime?

You didn't mention a budget, but here are some ideas.

1. Custom iron rod: https://www.ironhardware.com/product/standard-iron-curtain-rod/

On the pricey side, but iron would be strong for that long length of windows. You would want rings with pins (or you can get clips, but pins look better). Unless you have a valance or get a high end traverse rod, you will see the ugly-ish traverse rod.

2. Loads of places on the internet where you can order blackout curtains. I have to have blackout and curtains are the best choice. Shades and blinds always let light in, unless you have built-in molding at the side to clip the shades behind (we actually do that in our son's room). Curtains make a room cozy, also. Pottery Barn, JC Penney, Ikea.

3. If the custom rod is too pricey, Ikea has a great track system that you can install into the ceiling or the wall. It is better looking than a traverse rod and they sell wands also. Their curtains are designed to work well with them, or you can use third-party curtains.

It is strong - I used it in our guest room with pretty heavy blackout curtains. They slide very nicely with the wands.

These are 125" wide. They overlap in the middle and there is a streetlight right outside that window that is BRIGHT. Full blackout inside.

Thank you all.. for some reason I’m my mind I was thinking one or the other? Clearly yes we need both. The rod for sure will be ordered.. I’ll try and find someone in Salem.. we don’t mind paying mileage at all. You’d think we were in Antartica. Hmm good thought about the paint and wallpaper.. we might have to take down before we redo that room. Just spent a kajillion dollars on wood floors etc.. The shipping alone on a rod for a 12' wide window will be truck, ( a semi ) and will be outrageous. It can't go UPS. You still need two rods joined. Two six foot won't do it either. That's the issue. Two eight foot , a cut and join on site, with a center support as well.

I would attempt nothing to "traverse" . The amount of fabric to make a 12' wide window look even half decent? A lot. The panels need only look good as stationary panels.....and only need block light seep at the sides of an inside mount cell shade. Wide width windows ? Always expensive to treat.

Sleep habits are learned. A dimmed room for naps and the night sky are all that is needed. If you begin at the crib with a black out TOMB ? It will stick for a lifetime. So....unless you reside where the sun never ever sets, let that child learn to sleep because truth is they do just that, and virtually anywhere. You'll have a kid who can sleep in broad daylight, atop a picket fence lol.
